General Job Summary: The Director of Finance and Accounting provides overall management of the financial operations for Methodist Children's Homes. The position reports to the President/CEO and serves as a member of the senior leadership team. This position participates with the Board of Directors, President and other staff.

Essential Functions:
  • Coordinate, analyze and report the financial performance to Management and Board Members (financial performance, projections and other special projects as required)
  • Prepare short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties
  • Maintain financial information for purpose of preparing monthly financial statements
  • Responsible for management of account mapping in Raiser's Edge for donations
  • Push donations data from Raiser's Edge to Financial Edge NXT weekly
  • Work with Development and Operations staff to manage grant income and expenses
  • Reconciling all bank statements & credit card statements
  • Preparing journal entries as needed
  • Reconciling General Ledger accounts
  • Complete all payroll and medical billing imports
  • Oversight of bi-weekly payroll and all related payroll tax payments, quarterly Federal Tax returns and W-2's and reconciling all applicable to the General Ledger
  • Oversight of monthly reconciliation of employee benefits
  • Prepare monthly comparative summary versus budget profit & loss financial statements
  • Maintain employee payroll files and handle all related questions
  • Monitor cash flow for President/CEO and transfer cash to appropriate accounts
  • Prepare monthly billing to MS Department of Human Services for youth in our group home and foster care
  • Assist CEO with management of various MCH investments
  • Aid auditors in year-end audit; prepare audit paperwork
  • Prepare 1099's at year - end
  • Assist CEO with annual budgeting and planning process, monitoring progress and changes and keeping the Senior Leadership Team informed of the agency's financial status
  • Provide leadership in the development of continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives, including the impact of introducing new programs and technologies
  • Develop/Implement a contract management and financial management reporting system
  • Manage contract billing and collection to ensure that financial data and cash flow are accurate and support agency needs
  • Oversee agency cash flow and forecasting
  • Must perform all other duties as directed or required


Requirements

Qualifications:

Knowledge & Experience
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a minimum of five (5) years of accounting administration experience; CPA preferred
  • Non-Profit accounting experience preferred
  • Financial Edge NXT & Raiser's Edge NXT experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Medicaid Billing and Codes preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and effective problem solving skills
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of the Methodist Children's Homes
  • Out-of-town, overnight travel may be required

Skills/Working Conditions:
  • Must maintain valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record
  • Must be insurable by Methodist Children's Homes insurance carrier
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule when necessary and shifts including overnights, weekends, holidays and extended periods of time
  • Must successfully complete all phases of pre-service and on-going training
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, high pressure, high stress environment

Physical Requirements:
  • Must provide a negative drug screen result prior to employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and TB test and on-going physical assessments as required
  • Have the ability to demonstrate organizational, management, and leadership skills
  • Have the ability to generate multiple solutions to meet the changing needs of clients, staff, and communities
  • Have the ability to communicate professionally, in both verbal and written formats, with consumers, including, but not limited to parents, supervises, colleagues, and community service providers
