POSITION SUMMARY The CDC Associate teacher is responsible for assisting in the planning, monitoring and implementing age appropriate activities which help children develop emotionally, physically, socially and cognitively. The associate teacher encourages active learning through creative curriculum, loving interactions and exploration is a safe and predictable environment assisting in the supervision and coordination of a Licensed, State Preschool, General Child Care, and/or school age/youth program. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsibilities: 1. Works cooperatively with Teacher to ensure the effective and full compliance of day to day operations of a center as in accordance to The Salvation Army-Child Safety, Community Care Licensing (CCL)-Title 2-Program, Health and Safety and/or California Department Education (CDE)-Title 5 funding and/or The Child and Adult Food Program (CACFP). 2. Share in development and implementation of learning environment which supports the needs of the children enrolled. Assist with develop/update curriculum and lesson plans with age appropriate activities, maintain indoor and door environment. 3. Model appropriate adult/child interactions and provide consultation to teaching staff as needed. 4. Support the ethical, cultural, confidentiality of each child and family. 5. Support diversity and difference with anti-bias curriculum. 6. Approach challenging behavioral concerns in fair, firm and caring manner. 7. Maintain files as specified by Teacher and/or Director, observe and document children's development as required, submit paperwork in timely manner. 8. Establish and maintain on-going communication with parent/families and promote the parent involvement 9. Attend meetings and trainings as required and follow-up with site trainings for staff. Promote professional development of staff and self. 10. Promote educational and professional development of staff. 11. Provide program orientation as requested to staff, volunteers, and student teachers 12. Promote climate which supports and builds positive and collaborative atmosphere among educational staff, children and parents. 13. Ensures and follow professional code of ethics. 14. Report child abuse matters immediately. 15. Supervise as needed /requested-assistant teachers-providing directions, guidance and suggestions as needed to ensure effective planning of the learning environment to assist students in reaching their maximum potential. 16. Drive to elementary schools to pick up children, to fieldtrips or other destinations due to the need of the center. 17. Work full time hours in the summer to oversee the summer program. 18. Substitute the preschool program when needed.
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Mandatory for Title 5 Funded Programs
Child Development Associate Teacher Permit
Certified in Child and Infant CPR and first aid.
1. 12 core semester units
2. 2 years teacher experience
3. Certified in Child and Infant CPR and first aid.
A child development permit with enough child development units to qualify for an Associate Teacher Permit.
