Quality Manager – Automotive class A metal stamping / press hardening/ laser welding

Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for the assurance of product quality and quality operating system conformance per the customer and corporate quality requirements. He/She shall direct/mentor the quality team consisting of Quality Engineers, Quality Supervisors, Weld Techs, Auditors/Inspectors, CMM lab, Materials lab and Customer Liaisons.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive Customer Satisfaction KPI (Incidents, PPM, CPM) and Cost of Quality metrics attainment through process capability and control verification, quality system conformance actions and continuous improvement roadmaps towards OEM and internal customer scorecard objectives and customer perception through Q basics execution

  1. Customer requirements, FMEA/RPN reduction, Control Plan, Stable process (process capability, control, change management), inspection & test, containment, problem solving, layered/internal audits, management reviews and training

  1. Robust daily/weekly process monitoring & PDCA for dimensional, joining, surface, part identification/traceability requirements/conformance

  1. Support/Lead Customer audits, escalations and relationship

  1. Ensure adherence of supplier quality management directives for audits, PPAP, complaint management, recovery and global requirements

  • Conduct robust problem solving (8D/error proofing, containment actions, root cause analysis, corrective action plan – implementation and verification);

  • Drive site quality continuous improvement actions throughout the value chain using KPI's to ensure the site has robust processes to receive good, make good, ship good driven with objectives of meeting the voice of customer;

  • Enable robust launch APQP/PPAP/Safe Launch activity and launch preparedness in the facility by coordinating with AQE, Supplier Quality, Product Engineering, Operations, Supply chain & Program Launch teams.

  1. Drive gated reviews of launch quality plans and actions towards timely attainment of launch gate deliverables and PPAP

  1. Ensure full APQP process adherence including PFMEA, control plans, RPN Reduction, MSA study & robust PPAP encompassing customer specific requirements on product, process and system, IMDS and conflict mineral management.

  • Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of the quality system based on ISO/TS16949, VDA and Gestamp Quality System (GQS) directives & Customer Specific Requirements.

  • Drive rigor and follow-up on Internal and Layered process audits for conformance to quality system basics

  1. Maintain quality Control Plan adherence and continuous improvement based on requirements, lessons learning and process improvements and change events

  1. Establish and control quality documents, samples, customer contact, supplier development, production start - up, product launch, poke-yoke, gages, correction of production variances and warrant analysis.

  • Direct Customer and Supplier liaisons for plant quality activities and concerns including scheduled visits; ensure timely communication, containment, corrective and preventive actions, chargeback/cost recovery management

  • Inspire, educate, coach, train on customer focus, problem solving, project management, quality system aspects for all site members

  • Manage entire quality department on day-to-day basis ensuring adherence to customer specifications and requirements. Including the role of product safety management and quality management representative

  • Develop and maintain high performing quality functional organization with leadership standard work, data driven, accountability, training/certification for QE, Q Supervisors, Auditors, Inspectors, Technicians

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Quality Management with appropriate quality management credentials.

  • 7+ yrs. exp. in Automotive/Mfg. environment in metal forming.

  • 5+ yrs. in a Management or Supervision position of Quality;

  • Strong experience in quality management with passenger car OEM's –

  • VW, Honda, FCA, Volvo, BMW preferred;

  • has experience with managing launches, has led transformation projects from poor performance to meeting customer expectations, strengthened the bench strength of the organization

  • Has good understanding of Customer specific requirements including OEM audits, problem resolution, change management, OEM portals/ scorecards and ways of working expectations

  • Multiyear experience Managing the customer, including crisis management of potential product concerns

  • Product Launch and Change management

  • Process thinking and Problem Solving

  • Quality Systems and Improvement with significant shop floor experience and hands-on time on the shop floor

  • Leadership and Team development

  • Experience in managing VW, BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Ford, GM, FCA, international supply base

  • Experience in metal forming (hot, cold stamping), laser cutting, welded assemblies, heat treatment and other joining technologies

  • Experience in print reading, Geometric Design and Tolerance (GD&T), gage design and function and ability to manage metrology and metallurgy labs

  • High analytical and data driven problem solving ability to apply sound product/process technical and statistical knowledge for problem solutions

  • TS/IATF-16949 experience required; VDA experience a plus

  • Development and implementation of quality systems and standards (FMEA’s, PPAP, control Plans, DVP&R’s, APQP);

  • Proficient in oral and written communication with demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and facilitate teams

  • Highly organized, self-starter and professional team-player with attitude to drive the execution of the actions to attain Quality targets (concerns, PPM, Cost of Quality, Internal and OEM audits, supplier quality and Field Performance)

  • Drive Leadership standard work for self and the team - daily, weekly, month - closed feedback loop to attain objectives

  • Ability to take on additional scope of responsibilities and objectives and being an integral part of the site leadership team

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

  • Good follow-up skills and be able to prioritize and multi-task projects

  • A visible leader that champions change through teamwork, develops talent and plans for succession; and not afraid to do the Right thing despite unpopular decisions with significant time on the shop floor

  • Technical knowledge - GD&T; Metrology and Metallurgy technologies and techniques; Core Manufacturing processes knowledge: preferred Hot stamping, Cold stamping, Welding (Spot, MIG, Laser weld)
