COMPANY PROFILE

The Plant Company (TPC) is a newly established business currently operating in its Phase 1 production facility. Phase 1 encompasses a 5 acre greenhouse facility along with a 1.5 acre production barn. This is a state of the art, controlled enviroment greenhouse for the sustainable production of tropical indoor foliage plants of consistent and exceptional quality.

JOB SUMMARY

The Plant Manager holds a pivotal role in the daily operations of production and shipping in order to deliver products of exceptional quality to our customers. They will be responsible for shaping the future of the company's operations and maintaining the company's reputation and high standards. This is a proactive and goal-driven position requiring someone who is highly organized with excellent communication skills. The Plant Manager will provide oversight in partnership with the Director of Operations, ensuring that all processes, training requirements, schedules, policies, and procedures are followed, and the set production goals are met. This is a collaborative company in which we all work together to achieve our goals. There may be times when you are asked to lend a hand outside of your main responsibilities.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees the daily workflow of production and shipping.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Ensures completion of timely performance evaluations by Supervisors for their direct reports and general labor staff.
• Ensures safety training, toolbox talks, and safety requirements are completed in a timely manner.
• Liaison on the Safety committee as a managerial representative for production and shipping and maintains mandatory attendance of all department members.
• Ensures direct reports are held responsible for departmental metrics.
• Handles performance management, discipline and termination of employees in consistent manner and in accordance with company policy.
• Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff.
• Oversees production quotas and schedules, ensuring inventory and shipment targets are met.
• Collaborates with purchasing department to verify, review, maintain, and report on materials and production inventories.
• Facilitates and authorizes repairs or maintenance for production tools and equipment.
• Identifies and recommends cost controls and other improvements to the production process.
• Collaborate on the creation and implementation of all operations, plans, policies, SOP's, and procedures regarding production and shipping.
• Create and implement best practices to include standard operating procedures (SOP's) in partnership with Human Resources Specialist for plant management.
• Select, appoint, and train staff on the operation of the operation's automated tools and vehicles such as tuggers, forklifts, etc.
• Plan, create and manage the daily/weekly work schedules.
• Oversees inventory management in partnership with Production & Shipping Supervisor(s) to ensure minimum spec inventory requirements are monitored.
• Maintains vendor relations.
• Establish systems and chain of command to monitor, collect, analyze, and maintain efficiency in operations to aid strategic planning, staffing, and operational decisions.
• Serve as a role model and resource for staff with regards to policies and procedures, industry news, and changes in regulations
• Consistently report efficiency and capacity levels verbally and in written form to Director of Operations
• Attend and contribute to weekly EOS and operations meetings.
• Facilitate daily huddles to communicate status and objectives.
• Participate in the development and review of procedures.
• Effectively implement procedures to ensure operations are consistently maintained at the highest possible standards in alignment with lean, six sigma, and 6S principles.
• Communicate budgetary goals and status updates in partnership with Director of Operations
• Research and benchmark new strategies and insight to expand knowledge and implement improvement with regards to streamlining existing procedures, adapting new technologies and integrating production planning software
• Work closely with other managers and supervisors in order to execute the company's overall strategy.
• Serves as an external representative of the organization and as a liaison to support achieving company goals.
• Consistently monitor operations efficiencies and perform data analysis on budgetary needs for the Director of Operations.
• Provide Director of Operations consistent feedback on all department needs and suggestions.
• Responsible for adhering to a work schedule consistent with business needs and operations staffing to include weekly availability.
• Other duties, as assigned.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:

• Forklift Driver Certification and Trainer

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Industrial Management, or related field required.
o Master's Degree preferred.
• Lean, Six Sigma, 6S
• 4-6 years of relevant job experience
• 5+ years of management experience
• Advanced knowledge of production and shipping
• Extensive work experience in the horticultural industry
• Experience in a position requiring critical thinking, problem solving, planning, and assessment
• Proficiency in Windows based software
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required.

• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including humidity, various outdoor temperatures, and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the greenhouse.
