Body Shop Manager

Job Description

 As a working manager in this busy classic car restoration shop, you will use your skills and experience to produce the highest quality results possible, both from yourself and your staff. While responsible primarily for the body shop, this is a key role and an opportunity for the right person to influence and grow the business and share in its success.


Direct, train, and monitor staff on correct methods and techniques

o   Fabrication and repair of panels and other components using shears, brakes, hammer/dolly, bead rollers, English wheel, etc.

o   Panel, frame, and other component welding using MIG/TIG/gas

o   Panel prepping and finishing: final shaping, media application, priming, sanding, etc.

o   Paint preparation and final application

o   Paint finishing

o   Oversee interior restoration and installation


Manage a staff of four body shop technicians

o   Establish specific goals, assignments, and timelines for each project

o   Coordinate daily priorities in order to achieve established project goals

o   Coach and cultivate staff for success and document performance

o   Communicate directly with management and clients on progress and challenges

o   Identify ongoing equipment and material needs

o   Order materials for daily operations

o   Recommend equipment purchases for improved operations

o   Ensure a safe and healthy working environment


Coordinate efforts directly with other areas of the business

o   Ensure coordination and cooperation with mechanical shop by interfacing with Head Mechanic and related staff

o   Provide guidance on scheduling of overlapping efforts

o   Perform vehicle inspections and assist in the development of estimates/proposals

o   Work as a key team member to advance staff cooperation and promote business success



-        Minimum of 5 years working in a body shop in a similar role

-        Experience fabricating sheet metal panels and parts using various tools (English wheel, bead roller, metal brake, hammer/dolly, MIG/TIG/gas welding, etc.)

-        Experience with painting methods and materials (painting experience a plus)

-        Must have proven management/supervisory experience

-        Must be self-motivated and possess excellent communication skills
