The Opportunity Alliance is seeking a full time Child and Family Support Specialist. This position is a professional social work position for The Opportunity Alliance’s Mobile Aftercare Program. The person in this position provides expanded aftercare and stabilization services to aid children and their families in reducing utilization of higher levels of care. This Support Specialist will bridge the child(ren) to community resources and aid them in staying in their homes and communities.

The Support Specialist will also support families in maintaining their child(ren) as they wait in their home community for higher Levels of Care, such as Residential Treatment or In-patient Psychiatric Units – or when transitioning home from these placements. This program will seek to eliminate or reduce the number of days that a child(ren) is in the local emergency room; inpatient psychiatric unit; or crisis stabilization unit. 

The program will provide families opportunities to work with trained providers in the home setting. This staff person will provide therapeutic interventions and continued crisis stabilization and support in the home. They will also assess child(ren) and family needs and connect child(ren) and families with helpful resources. 

 

The person in this position attends regular program staff meetings, participates in other meetings as needed, establishes and maintains positive work relationships, engages fully as a member of the team, proactively demonstrates constructive conflict resolution skills and employs helpful self-care tools that recognize and safely attend to issues of secondary traumatization.

 

 This is a full time, 40-hour/week position located in Portland, ME.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field required, plus one year working in a relevant field. 
  • MHRT/CSP certification or the ability to obtain MHRT/CSP certification within 30 days of employment (on-site training is provided) is required.  
  • Demonstrated technical literacy- electronic documentation, solid oral and written communication skills and strong organizational skills, and flexible schedule are required.
  • Demonstrated competence with critical thinking especially as it relates to assessing information, ethical decision making, and problem solving is required.
  • Demonstrated technical literacy, knowledge of DSM-V, solid oral and written communication, strong organizational skills preferred.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work across differing systems, within a team framework, which encompass different rules, governing policies and leadership styles across cultural perspectives. 
  • Flexible schedule is required including on-call/after hours.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, E-mail, and the Internet required.  
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check & sex offender check.
  • Must not be on the state or federal suspension and disbarment list.
  • Normal office conditions such as sitting, with occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, typing and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Driving may be necessary to attend meetings and trainings and for the occasional need to meet with clients offsite and within the program service area.        This may include transportation of clients or driving to agency location to complete work.  A good driving record is required.
