Job Description

We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Plant Accountant to join our team at the Santa Maria Plant. As the Plant Accountant, you will oversee all aspects of the accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established procedures. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial success of our organization and work collaboratively with various departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gain familiarity with all Plant Accounting functions and provide oversight.
  • Prepare and complete various journal entries for monthly closing.
  • Review weekly production reports and make necessary corrections.
  • Conduct monthly raw materials inventories and scrap inventories within a Standard Cost System.
  • Supervise the annual physical inventory process and analyze results.
  • Calculate scrap value, prepare scrap reports, and conduct analysis.
  • Generate manufacturing reports related to material usage, scrap, direct labor utilization, remakes, experimental orders, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager and Staff to produce yearly manufacturing budgets and costing rates.
  • Understand cost and routing (C&R) processes, review C&R costs, and calculate standards.
  • Assist with special projects assigned by the Plant Manager or Corporate Management.
  • Provide supervision to Senior Accountants and Accounting clerks.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels, from union workers to Corporate Senior Management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in Manufacturing/Cost Accounting.

The Okonite Company was founded in 1878, making it one of the original insulators of electrical wire and cable in the United States. Earliest customers included Samuel F.B. Morse for his telegraph network and Thomas A. Edison for the Pearl Street Generating Station, the nation's first, built in New York City in 1882.

In June 1976, Okonite became the largest company in the United States to be owned by its employees through an Employees' Stock Ownership Trust. As such, Okonite employees have a unique vested interest in the quality and service we provide.
