Job Description

The External Communications Manager creates and executes marketing communications to drive engagement with our client's external audiences including their member institutions, organizations in the communities, the members they serve, as well as community investment and trade association partners. As part of our People, Culture, and Communications department, this role supports our client's strategic objective of high member and community partner engagement through hosting events and promoting the use of their products, solutions, and services. Communications are built on our mission, vision, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The External Communications Manager partners closely with communications team members and key stakeholders such as the marketing and events team, sales group, external affairs team, and community investment department.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop email marketing communications and materials for member events to drive attendance and increase engagement (events are currently being offered in a live, virtual format)

  • Create and maintain a content calendar to manage production timelines and ensure target distribution deadlines are met

  • Proofread event marketing copy to ensure consistency in messaging and attention to detail

  • Work closely with our client's graphic designer to implement design updates on an event’s digital assets

  • Leverage defined content pillars, channel strategy, and brand voice across communications

  • Create digital content for social media channels, public-facing website, and events platform to promote member events

  • Create digital content for intranet and digital message boards to share member community success stories within the organization

  • Partner with the external affairs team to support their outreach initiatives

  • Partner with the community investment department to create marketing communications and materials that promote our client's suite of community investment products and programs

  • Work closely with the Lead External Communications Manager to support external communications, strategic priorities, and assigned projects

  • Help track and measure the effectiveness of messaging to monitor progress and inform future strategies and decisions

Knowledge and skills:


  • Demonstrated knowledge and execution of marketing communications

  • Highly organized with excellent project management skills

  • Strong communications skills including writing, editing, and content development

  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and deliver results in a dynamic environment

  • Exhibits being a forward-thinker, creative collaborator, and self-starter

  • Experience creating social media content a plus

  • Familiarity with Adobe, html email marketing, and Cvent (or a similar event platform)a plus

  • Proficiency with MS Office and Microsoft Teams

  • Familiarity with AP Style a plus

Experience and education


  • 5 years related communications experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or other related Business field
