Job Description

The Learning Community, a K-8 school, seeks a Resident Director of Teaching and Learning to join our dynamic, highly collaborative instructional team and close-knit school community. The Resident Director position is designed to start with scaffolded support with increased independence and responsibility over time. Candidates who are experienced with K-8 reading and writing workshop, balanced literacy, constructivist math, and culturally responsive teaching practices are preferred.

TEACHERS: We seek creative, energetic teachers who are familiar with, or open to learning a Workshop structure institutional approach, who work collaboratively and plan thoughtfully, and who are interested in being part of a close-knit school community with opportunities for growth. Our rigorous curriculum emphasizes literacy and numeracy as a leadership tool to grow student independence and voice. Our teachers enjoy tremendous autonomy, collaboration and leadership. All candidates must have teacher certification. Spanish language skills a plus.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and monitors the overall vision for teaching and learning in collaboration with all stakeholders including administration, parents, and staff.
  • Oversees all state testing and compliance.
  • Facilitates report card process.

· Conducts classroom walk throughs to assess/inform work and provide instructional feedback.

· Supervise and support instructional coaches to ensure vertical and horizontal articulation of content, skills, strategies, and assessments.

· Coordinates teacher professional development.

  • Provides strong leadership in the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the teaching staff.
  • Coordinates and facilitates meetings for teaching staff.
  • Establishes clear lines of communication at all levels.
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel, as well as oversees the formal evaluation process.
  • Attends all board meetings and prepare reports deemed necessary for the Head of School and/or the board.
  • Maintains and respects the confidentiality of staff and student information.
  • Analyzes research in making recommendations for sound curriculum and assessment related decisions.
  • Interprets assessment results and provides recommendations for programs and services.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
