POSITION: Overnight Child Care Worker

Sign on Bonus $500-$1,000

The overnight child care worker is responsible for the safety and supervision of the

children during these critical overnight and early morning hours. This counselor must

remain awake, and is responsible to ensure the students are safe at all times

and are comfortable throughout the night.


  • A valid drivers license and a clean driving record as determined by Human Resources is required
  • A second language fluency in American Sign Language or ability to demonstrate progressing ASL skills
  • Human Service experience preferred

SUPERVISOR: Overnight Child Care Supervisor


Respond to all needs of the students throughout the night and morning hours, including but not limited to supervision, support, crisis intervention, and behavior management.

Conduct child checks at least 4 times each hour; more frequently when identified as at risk for self-harm or elopement.

Follow all special instruction related to individual students. (Example: sit outside door until child falls asleep; wake child during the night to prevent bedwetting).

Assist day staff with morning routine, waking children, supervising breakfast, and ensuring proper hygiene practices.

Complete students’ daily logs.

Ensure any concerns are appropriately communicated to all agency personnel including high-risk behaviors.

Adhere to all Walden School policies and procedures.

May be delegated and trained to conduct medication administration or certain medical procedure responsibilities for students.

Other duties upon request.


Must be physically able to perform all duties of the job including restraining assaultive students when necessary, pursuing running students, and participating in sports and recreation activities with students. Job may also include prolonged standing, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing pulling, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above shoulder level as well as reacting quickly to escalating behavioral outbursts.

The hired candidate must be able to remain fully awake throughout the entire work shift. Napping and/or sleeping is strictly forbidden, whether on duty or on break.
