Production Manager


Monitors the production flow and packing in the packaging area and troubleshoots equipment and monitors maintenance of equipment. Additionally, provides guidance and direction to employees on the shift. Responsible for ensuring shift communication, personnel safety, food safety, and quality while achieving production standards.


  • Embrace the ownership of the packaging area: the term "Man & Machine" to produce quality products that the customer expects "right the first time"
  • Work closely and hand-by-hand with the Processing Supervisor to ensure harmonious and quality flow of product to your area of responsibility without any interruption or downtime
  • Collaborate with Receiving Department and Supply Chain and verify all packaging materials logistics to ensure proper production schedule execution
  • Follow the production schedule and oversee finished products' bins management to ensure proper diets sequencing
  • Check frequently during the shift the critical operational parameters are followed to ensure success and avoid costly mistakes
  • Address failures as they happen and investigate root cause and take corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence
  • Make sound decisions pertaining to product quality, department safety, and department efficiency
  • Monitor all aspects of the assigned department including product testing, equipment operations, and employee actions
  • Develop and Facilitate employee training and hold employees accountable for their responsibilities
  • Take accurate product inventories
  • Schedule employees to meet production needs
  • Advise, coordinate, and lead all activities within area of responsibility on the assigned shift
  • Assist in preparation for completion, review, and follow up for audits
  • Create and regularly present at shift meetings to work through operational issues and provide information about the business
  • Ensure employees on the shift follow GMP's, SOP's, policies, and procedures
  • Directly supervise employees including hourly employees, operators, and line leaders
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Inspect physical condition of the assigned department and submit work orders for repairs
  • Investigate and report on any extraneous objects found in product
  • Monitor general operations through the use of computers and control sheets to know production and equipment status
  • Monitor product quality and understand and adhere to the concepts and techniques of the quality process in order to ensure a quality operation
  • Evaluate product placed on hold, work with QC department to determine disposition of product in question, and rework product on hold status for inadequate quality
  • Demonstrate understanding of the integration and operation of bin management, packaging, sealing, bundling, and palletizing equipment
  • Execution of daily production plans, including monitoring and reporting adjustments
  • Reconciliation of production yields / outputs and investigations of variances
  • Work in coordination with other departments to resolve any operational challenges and/or conflicts
  • Assist in crisis management roles
  • Review and Reconcile all production paperwork for accuracy and completeness, sign off and submit to accounting
  • Follow all required work safe practices to include wearing of all required PPE in designated areas
  • Responsible for food safety, pre-requisite programs and food quality related to designated work area
  • Report any food safety, food quality and safety related issues to management immediately



  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred


  • At least 5 years of manufacturing experience is required; preferably in food/pet food manufacturing
  • Previous people management experience is required
