Title: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER: Spanish, Immersion Language for (Kindergarten)

Department: Faculty
Reports to: Head of Early Childhood
Status: Exempt
Duration: Up to 3 month(s) +/- for a teacher on personal leave of absence
Schedule: Follows the class and school schedule 7:30 AM- 4:00 PM

Compensation: Based on degree and experience (Faculty scale)

Effective Date: February 01, 2022 to be a substitute up to 3 months +/-

We are interviewing now & hiring for a dynamic Substitute Spanish Language Immersion Teacher at The International School of Portland!

The International School of Portland located in downtown Portland, OR has an immediate opening for Substitute Spanish Immersion Kindergarten School Teacher with native level fluency. The International School of Portland provides a warm multicultural environment where our students are fully immersed in Spanish, Japanese or Chinese language and culture. Our Language Immersion Substitute teacher will use the target language (Spanish) throughout the day while engaged with students.

We are looking for a native language speaker, who is passionate about teaching, creative, and motivated by new opportunities and challenges. We are seeking substitute teachers who will be committed to the mission and vision of The International School of Portland, and able to demonstrate the values and traits of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program and Learner Profile while teaching and working.

The ideal candidate will be dedicated to meeting the needs of diverse student learners, as well as, committed to being a collaborative team player who can work together with students, colleagues, the administrative team, and parents/community.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • During peak activity periods, this position may require working in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.

  • Capable of quickly traveling to multiple locations on school campus including up and down hills, lifting or otherwise carrying 40 pounds, traveling up/down flights of stairs, standing and sitting for long durations, typing for continuous hours on a computer keyboard, and reading information on a computer screen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Native level fluency in Spanish
  • At least 1 year experience teaching preschool or elementary school-age children
  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or Elementary/Early Childhood Education is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of Inquiry Based-Primary Years Program pedagogy is a plus
  • Experience teaching an immersion program
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience using technology in the classroom
  • Candidates offered a position must be able to pass a background check

  • Candidates offered a position must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.

  • No H1B Visa sponsorships at this time

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Teaching/Education or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English

  • Native level fluency in the target language along with demonstrated ability to teach the target language

  • At least 6 months -1 year of professional teaching experience in a language immersion classroom
