Job Description
Our client, a real estate company with 20 employees and specialties in property management, maintenance, and storage, has an opening for a hands-on Controller to train with and assume responsibilities from the current Controller, upon his retirement next summer.

Compensation Package Includes:
  • Salary of $70,000 - 90,000 depending on prior experience and qualifications

  • On-the-job training with retiring Controller for up to 6 months (target start date ~March 1, 2021)
Responsibilities Include:
  • Oversee accounting processes (AP, AR, payroll, CRS filing, benefits administration) and financial controls for two companies that include 5 divisions and separate financials
  • Supervise and direct the work of two staff accountants to efficiently execute all responsibilities of the accounting department
  • Receive, process, deposit, and reconcile rent checks monthly for large residential property management division
  • Process and bill late fees for rental properties
  • Process and pay utility and maintenance bills for managed properties, billing tenants and charging owners as appropriate
  • Review and analyze owners' statements (+/-1600 pages per month!) prior to mailing
  • Oversee property accounting for commercial property management division, including P&Ls for each property and financial reporting to property owners
  • Support banking relationships and loan compliance by compiling documents and preparing financial reports
  • Prepare regular financial reports for owners, managers, and lenders
Desired Profile Includes:
  • Very hands-on accounting professional (a "doer" not simply a "director")
  • Strong tech orientation to navigate multiple software systems, notably an industry-specific property management system and Quickbooks Pro, in addition to standard office software
  • Experience supervising a small accounting team
  • Property management, maintenance, and/or job costing experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degrees in accounting or related field preferred, but comparable work experience is more important than education
Location:  On-site position in COVID-responsive office near downtown Santa Fe, NM

Position / Recruitment Type:  Direct Hire

Schedule:  Fulltime, exempt position - typically 40-45 hours, Monday through Friday
