HJF is seeking a Mission Support Specialist to support the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) located at JB Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Honolulu, HI. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to DPAA. This position is currently remote but will be required to work on site upon reengagement. This position can be worked out of either the JB Pearl Harbor-Hickam location in Hawaii or Offut Air Force Base in Nebraska. US Citizenship is required for this position.

Provides professional and scientific assistance pertaining to DPAA’s partner-related activities. The position provides planning and execution mission support for underwater archaeological projects. This position regularly interfaces with employees, consultants, partners, and contractors, and communicates through briefings and written products with Agency leadership, U.S. Government employees, family members, foreign officials, and partners as well as potential partners.

Responsibilities:  

  1. Assists PI planners with logistics planning for multiple underwater partner field projects. (20%)
  2. Assists PI planners with equipment acquisition and transportation planning. (20%)
  3. Assists PI planners with mission execution needs to include monitoring, problem-solving, and collaborating on reports or responses to inquiries. (20%)
  4. Assists PI planners by securing necessary permits and permissions for archaeological field projects in multiple foreign countries. (20%)
  5. Assists PI planners with safety and risk assessments while developing mitigation strategies for partner projects. (10%)
  6. Supports PI’s coordination efforts with DPAA’s forward detachments and logistics offices. (10%) 
  7. Other tasks as assigned  

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  1. Knowledge of DPAA mission and past field activities or relevant experience supporting complex underwater archaeological projects.
  2. Knowledge of mission planning, execution, oversight, and logistical support.
  3. Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  5. Knowledge of remote sensing equipment and software applications.
  6. Demonstrated record of participation in underwater projects that involved remote sensing survey techniques.
  7. Demonstrate record of participation in underwater excavations or with dredging equipment.
  8. Knowledge of scuba equipment and diver safety issues.
  9. A demonstrated history of initiative and achievement.
  10. Demonstrated ability to engage with all levels or an organization to include management and mission partners in an independent manner to achieve required results.
  11. Experience working independently with minimal direction or supervision.
  12. Experience supporting and anticipating mission needs and demonstrating problem-solving skills.
  13. Experience performing tasks under tight deadlines and managing shifting priorities.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field required. Master’s degree in a scientific field preferred.  

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience required.  

Work Environment: This job takes place in an office setting.

Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
