The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

HJF is seeking a Biomedical Repair Technician to help maintain and repair equipment used within research and clinical laboratories. This includes the ability to evaluate, install, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair sophisticated/complex medical equipment and/or systems and provide training, assistance, and guidance to lower-graded technicians.

This position will be in support of the Office of the VP for Finance & Administration (VFA) and the Logistics department (LOG).

Note: This work site requires that Non-US Citizen incumbents have lived in the US three out of the past five years.


  • Perform installations, repairs, and maintenance tasks on biomedical or electromedical equipment such as medical imaging machines, medical laboratory equipment, or non-implantable medical devices.
  • Inspect, test, and adjust malfunctioning components and parts.
  • Keep record of system problems and issues.
  • Evaluates and installs sophisticated/complex medical equipment and/or systems to include standalone equipment and/or components that contain integrated circuitry and/or microprocessors.
  • Inspects new patient care equipment (PCE) to include receipt, inventory of parts, accessories, assembly, inspection, calibration, performance verification, parts replacement, documentation and interpretation of Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspection results to determine whether equipment is safe and operating within manufacturer's specifications.
  • Sets up and installs new medical PCE systems. Inspects services performed on-site by commercial vendors for acceptable work performed considering contract and original manufacturer's specifications before payment is made for services. Communicates with clinical staff (physicians, nurses, technicians, etc.) as necessary to aid in-service training, setup, calibration, operation, and application of PCE. Provides technical training, assistance, and guidance to lower-graded technicians.


Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills needed to work in a team environment.
  • Practical knowledge of a wide range of technical engineering methods, principles, requirements, work techniques, and practices, and the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to diagnose and repair most equipment typically located in a medical or medical research facility.
  • Familiar with regulatory guidance to include Joint Commission (JC); College of American Pathologists (CAP); Safe Medical Devices Act (SMDA); Environmental Protection Agency; and Code of Federal Regulations (i.e., 21 CFR (Laser & Ultrasounds) and 29 CFR (Safety in the Workplace). Ability to work independently, use sound judgment in solving problems.
  • Understanding of project management and ability to manage a workload required.
  • Excellent record keeping ability required.
  • Excellent time management skills required.
  • Experience working with different medical and laboratory devices preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in a Medical Research Facility.

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
