Senior Sales Consultant

The Sr. Sales Consultant will be responsible for meeting the sales and financial objectives of the Hartford School of Insurance (HSI). In doing so, he/she will be responsible for managing HSI's countrywide territory, strategic sales planning, client relationship management and discipline in executing proactive sales activities and operating routines to drive results. He/she will be responsible for building strong relationships with the Hartford's agency partners and executing a consultative sales model to better understand their needs and identify training solutions that meet the needs of the agencies. The Sr. Sales Consultant will play a critical role in marketing, communicating and selling the Hartford School of Insurance's value proposition to our key agency and business partners. The Sr. Sales Consultant Position interacts across segments of P&C and Group Benefits field operations, agencies and brokers, and external vendors. The position will report to the Hartford School of Insurance (HSI) Director, Strategy, and Sales & Education and is located in Hartford CT. It will require approximately 5% travel to internal and external customers and vendor sites.


Responsibilities:

  • Work with agencies and brokers taking inbound and making outbound calls to develop new business opportunities to meet or exceed sales objectives
  • Through telephonic sales and electronic communications uses a consultative sales approach in understanding agencies short and long-term objectives, and provides training solutions to meet the identified needs
  • Effectively assesses customer needs, networks with the appropriate resources and provides creative solutions to customer needs
  • Meet/exceed sales and financial goals and driving training registrations and program participant counts in order to maximize results
  • Manage HSI territory countrywide, identifying key agents and business partners to execute sales strategies and drive new business revenue.
  • Strategically develop and execute a sales plan in order to prioritize key sources of business and strategies to drive results. Continuously gathers marketplace and competitive intelligence in order to understand opportunities and threats to the current business plan and offer viable solutions.
  • Review sales plan on a regular basis and makes adjustments if needed in order to ensure success
  • Develop and own relationships with Hartford's key VIP Agents and Brokers, Top Partners (non-VIP agents) as well as National Partners
  • Establish credibility with agents and is viewed as an advocate and business partner
  • Build long-term relationships with critical clients to develop and maintain a steady flow of repeat business, improve retention as well as upsell and cross sell programs to drive long-term loyal customers
  • Lead a partnership with operations/marketing team to execute proactive ideas for marketing campaigns, leverage strong relationships
  • Distribute marketing material that strengthens HSI's image, and leverages HSI's opportunities
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and develop recommendations accordingly
  • Develop, update and maintain accurate customer relations files in HSI operating systems to ensure effective use of customer information in the sales, service and marketing activities with our clients
  • Evaluate and analyze data and results on an ongoing basis and share results and key learnings across HSI organization
  • Identifies trends using our HSI Operating Systems and builds strategic initiatives utilizing that data to drive sales results and revenue


  • 3-5 years work-related experience 
  • Sales oriented and results driven with proven track record in achieving sales  results
  • Strong consultative sales skills with ability to execute on assigned sales activities and campaigns
  • Exceptional relationship management  skills with multiple stakeholders, business customers/partners
  • Strong strategic problem solving skills to engage right resources to develop and execute effective resolutions
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence to acquire desired outcomes
  • Analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to manage multiple, high detail, deadline sensitive projects with a team-focused attitude
  • Ability to work independently with some oversight and direction
  • Strong discipline and organization skills
  • Strong standard business software and applications (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Windows Platforms)
  • Strong technical abilities, and comfortable in learning new technologies
