The Control Systems Specialist is responsible for hardware selection and software design, programming, review, implementation, continual improvement, documentation, and support to meet or exceed requirements, goals and specifications. This position will work closely with sales, production, engineering, research & development, and technical service. They must have a systematical way of reasoning, recognize the importance of both function and form, and be able to effectively troubleshoot complex systems to the component level using root cause analysis techniques. They must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the company values and operating philosophy.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Software Development – Adheres to established protocols and uses creative talent to develop application software, graphical user interfaces, ad-hoc solutions, algorithms, sequences, and parameters for combustion, temperature, lead/lag, building automation system, internet of things, and facilities plant controls.
- Electronic Control Systems Integrity – Responsible for testing, continual improvement, validating and releasing software and accompanying documentation to production, technical service and customers.
- Customer Service and Support – Maintains a positive disposition with customers and creatively provides exceptional timely support in an empathetic and courteous manner. Is willing to travel for field commissioning, repair, distribution network and customer training, troubleshooting, software updates and data collection.
- Build to Order – Coordinates documentation required for submittal packages. Specifies components and develops software to meet or exceed gross margin, availability, and functional specifications of project requirements.
- Documentation – Ensures complete documentation is recorded for all incidents, projects and products, inclusive of submittals, cut sheets, manuals, engineering changes, corrective actions, and service reports.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Certifications and Required Experience):
- Proficiency and clear ability to troubleshoot control systems, interpret electrical drawings and P&IDs, and the use of common electrical tools such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Aptitude with modern electronics, computers, and fundamentals of programming logic.
- A thorough understanding of or willingness to learn the principles of HVAC, heating and steam systems.
- Associate or Bachelor degree in Computer Science; alternatively 3+ years controls programming experience.
- 2+ years Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) ladder logic experience preferred, procedural language programming experience with C preferred, object-oriented programming experience with C++ or C# preferred.

- Stress Management – The ability to keep functioning effectively when under pressure or with unpredictable surges in workload; and maintain self-control in the face of hostility or provocation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Repetitive Motion – Substantial movement/motion of the wrists, hands and fingers.
- Sitting – Employee needs to remain seated for extended periods of time.
- Vision – Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, use of tools, etc.
- Travel – Work requires travel by walking on foot, car or airplane and may include extended periods of walking or sitting.
