The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) is a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC) user facility for nuclear science. Hosting the most powerful heavy-ion accelerator, FRIB will provide intense beams of rare isotopes (that is, short-lived nuclei not normally found on Earth).
FRIB will enable scientists to make discoveries about the properties of these rare isotopes in order to better understand the physics of atomic nuclei, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications of rare isotopes benefitting society. FRIB will commence scientific user operation in 2022. It is funded by DOE-SC, Michigan State University (MSU), and the State of Michigan, with user facility operation supported by the DOE-SC Office of Nuclear Physics.

This position affords an exciting opportunity to become part of the world-class FRIB Laboratory that will expand nuclear science into a whole new realm of possibility. We are currently seeking to hire a Linux Administrator to become an integral part of our IT team performing highly complex professional support of computing and nextwork systems, with an emphasis on the Linux platform, in an industrial controls system (ICS) environment. Major Position Responsibilties Independently install and maintain Linux IT systems in an industrial controls system (ICS) environment including deployment, secruity, automation, monitoring, logging, and upgrades Support Linux Hypervisor administration Linux web applications via Apache Tomcat Linux Operating Systems patching and upgrading (Debian and Redhat) Puppet Administration Write, update, and maintain configuration management programming code Develop documentation and procedures for systems and users Analyze existing systems to identify opporutnities for improvement including automation of IT tasks Support industrial controls system network users If skillset is present, provide back up support for Windows server administration, SharePoint Administration, SCCM windows management, and Citrix workspaces Requird Qualifications Bachelor's degree 6-8 years experience in related industry or equivalent combination of education and experience Desired Qualifications Experience with hypervisor clusters Experience with Docker Containers using Docker Compose IT networking experience with switches, firewalls, and VLANs Experience with clusterd and high availability services Experience with enterprise storage SANNAS systems Experience with database administration of MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB Experience with Microsoft Active Directory Experience with Apache and Nginx web server platforms Experience with Git version controls system Experience with Puppet configuration management system Experience with programming languages such as Python, Perl, Java, andor shell scripting Willingness to work with a group on large projects About FRIB and MSU, and the East Lansing community FRIB will enable scientists to make discoveries about the properties of rare isotopes supporting discoveries about the physics of atomic nuclei, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications of rare isotopes to benefit society.
