CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER


FLSA CLASSIFICATION - EXEMPT EXECUTIVE


PURPOSE:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has the overall responsibility for achieving the agency's mission. This includes oversight of agency strategy, programs, staffing, administration, funding, risk management, financial health, development efforts, accreditations, compliance, and public relations.

SUMMARY:

The CEO is responsible for operational, fiscal, and programmatic oversight for Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County, Inc. within the general policies formulated by the Board of Directors. He/She is to provide information and leadership to the Board of Directors to help keep them informed and aware of changing community needs and to modify agency programs and policies accordingly. The CEO administers the agency's programs to ensure maximum benefits to clients and the community, and to optimize the agency's assets (financial and human resources)

Within the limitations of the agency's programs, policies and procedures and budget, the CEO is responsible for and has authority to perform the administrative duties listed:

  • Keep the Board of Directors informed of agency operations so that it has adequate information for carrying out its governance, fiscal, and risk management responsibilities. The CEO is a member of the Board and an ex-officio member of all committees.
  • Participate in strategic planning with the board, and lead the effort to execute the plan.
  • Report key performance metrics to track the strategic plan's progress and success so the board is able to adjust or adapt the plan as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain acceptable standards of professional practice in the agency.
  • Provide oversight and direct supervision to Chief Operating Officer to ensure programs meet goals and objectives set forth annually.
  • Oversee, in conjunction with the Chief Operating Officer, all counseling programs to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Provide oversight and direct supervision to the Chief Financial Officer to ensure an adequate system for accurate, timely, reliable accounting of services and activities.
  • Work with Chief Financial Officer to understand and manage the agency's annual budget needs, as well as strategic planning forecasting needs.
  • Ensure Chief Financial Officer partners with staff, board members, funders, and auditors to provide them with the information needed to complete their work in a timely manner.
  • Keep informed of developments and trends in the agency's operation as well as mental health trends within the community and nationally.
  • Build and maintain strong, appropriate relationships with community partners.
  • Provide direct supervision to Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Special Events, Grantwriter, and Administrative Services Manager.
  • Maintain an agency culture which supports and strengthens staff performance and satisfaction.
  • Provide opportunities for staff participation in the formulation of agency policies and procedures including personnel practices.
  • Provide a staff development program that ensures maximum skill of all personnel.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Special Events and Grantwriter to build the agency's funding through major gifts, corporate sponsorships, special events, grants, and other appeals.
  • Ensure the staff is sufficiently equipped to perform well by overseeing the facility, network, and equipment they depend on daily.
  • Identify and utilize opportunities to educate the community on mental health issues, needs, and ways in which they can support the Center's efforts.
  • Participate in local, regional and national committees which focus on the broad field of social welfare and particularly the agency's interests.
  • Participate in continuing education in areas appropriate to the needs of the agency.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Master's degree from an accredited university in social work (or related field), business administration, or a Ph.D. in other fields of applied human behavior.

Experience

Recommend a minimum of seven years' leadership experience, with a minimum of five years in nonprofits. Proven business acumen a must.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

The CEO reports to the Board of Directors.
