About the Center for Policing Equity

Position Description
The Center for Policing Equity is looking for a skilled Data Acquisition Specialist (DAS) with a passion for social justice. The DAS will acquire police report data from law enforcement agencies participating in the National Justice Database (NJD) project. The NJD is the nation’s first and largest collection of standardized police behavior (e.g., vehicle stops, pedestrian stops, use of force, complaints against officers, etc.). The DAS will work directly with law enforcement personnel to request, receive, and prepare data for analysis. The DAS reports directly to the NJD Data Acquisition Manager.

  • Assist police department data contacts with difficulties extracting data extraction to address their issues
  • Review police department data identifying missing data, inconsistencies, data interlink-ability, and points of clarification
  • Record contextual information received from police data contacts about police data sets in Salesforce system in order to enable CPE analysts and researchers to use PD data for both research and report production
  • Track the status of data sets requested and received from police department partners
  • Detail the variables, received or not received, in PD-provided data sets through the Salesforce system
  • Utilize file sharing system to securely collect and store PD-provided data
  • Answer CPE analysts’ and researchers’ questions about PD-provided data
  • Use Microsoft Word and/or Google Docs to create reports about the viability of PD-provided data to:
    • better understand how to collect the best possible data for analyses from our law enforcement partners
    • fully understand the context for the data our data analysts are analyzing for NJD City Reports
  • Use Salesforce and Google Docs to track progress on creating reports

Qualifications:

  • Positive, data/results-driven attitude about law enforcement transformation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Self starter and personally/professionally driven
