DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING
Summary
The Director of Accounting oversees the day to day operations of the Accounting department. Works closely with the staff to ensure the daily operations are performed properly, accurately, and on time. The Director of Accounting is responsible for department supervision, management of company funds, general computer support, and proper performance of the reporting function.
General Responsibilities
Supervision of Accounting Staff
- Supervise the Accounting staff in all areas of daily operation to ensure accurate and timely input and processing of all related financial detail
- Assist in prioritizing and scheduling
- Assist in general department management
- Perform annual reviews
- Manage personnel turnovers and hiring of staff
- Represent department as a department liaison with other departments
- Assist in overall departmental planning
Financial Reporting
1. Process Operating Cash Flows and Quarterly Lender Statements
- Accumulate and process monthly cash flows and quarterly lender statements
- Distribute reports to various department heads
- Prepare monthly financial statements and monthly projections for The Broadbent Company and All Property Services
2. Review account balances
- The Broadbent Company
- All Property Services
- Operating Entities-Review of Balance Sheet Accounts
Year End Reporting for Operating Entities, All Property Services and The Broadbent Co.
- Review and verify account balances year-to-date
- Accumulate documents and prepare tax packages to submit to accountant
- File tax extensions for the management companies
- Review and process auditor-adjusting entries and K1 entries
- Verify balance sheet account balances to tax return
- Process management companies’ tax return
- Process K-1s from the management companies’ tax returns
- Process Cost Basis Reports on management companies to submit to accountants
- Process Personal Property Tax Returns
- Run 1099s for Operating Entities, Property Management and TBC
Computer
- Update general ledger files on a monthly basis
- Produce reports out of Skyline as requested
- Attend Skyline meetings whenever possible
Budget-The Broadbent Company and All Property Services
- Accumulate budget information
- Produce budget report
- Prepare spreadsheet and enter budgets into computer
Miscellaneous
- Approve weekly invoice coding for The Broadbent Co., and All Property Services
- Reconcile bank balances to cash flow reports
- Reconcile All Property Services operating bank statement
- Oversee cash balances
- Periodic audits of policies and procedures in the Accounting functions
- Maintain operating reserve accounts
- Update and Maintain the Fixed Assets schedules for all entities
- Run Management Fee and Repair billings on a monthly basis
- Process month-end closing for all entities
- Balance and Maintain Yearly Insurance Commercial Package
- Maintain the Tax Escrow Accounts along with processing the bank statement
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is preferred.
- Previous experience as a controller is preferred with a minimum five years accounting experience in real estate or related industry.
- Three years of experience in a supervisory role
- Experienced in computer software. (Microsoft Office, Skyline, Quickbooks, Cumulus, FixedAssetCS)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be flexible, resourceful and work well under pressure.
- Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills are a must.
