Licensed Practical Nurses ( LPN ) to work in the Marine Centered Medical Home Port at Naval Hospital, Beaufort, SC. providing medical care for Active Duty military heroes, their family members, and retirees. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position is full-time, Monday - Friday, 8.5 hr shifts between 7:00AM and 5PM, with full benefits and including 17 days of paid vacation & sick leave, plus paid 10 federal holidays.

DUTIES OF THE LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN) :

  • Initiate, perform and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.
  • Complete assigned patient care based on the patients’ conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information.
  • Ensure patient care is carried out in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care and the policies and procedures of the clinic.
  • Check patients into the clinic and triage using clinic guidelines.
  • Obtain and document patient and pertinent family history.
  • Perform a full range of diagnostic support duties which include taking vital signs, collecting specimens, obtaining, recording and tracking results of diagnostic tools.
  • Assist the physician in a variety of diagnostic examinations
  • Perform laboratory tests such as checking urine for sugar and stool for blood. Record and report results.
  • Perform a range of treatment procedures that include sterile dressing changes, applying compresses, monitoring IV fluids, inserting catheters and suctions, inserting nasogastric tubes, administering medications, giving enemas, setting up and giving treatment that requires auxiliary equipment such as oxygen and suction.
  • Prepare patients for tests, examinations, treatments, and/or surgery. Collect specimens such as urine, sputum and stool.
  • Prepare, start, monitor and discontinue intravenous fluids with accuracy and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain records of nursing care, dose and time of medication administered.
  • Administer immunizations in a safe and accurate manner with strict adherence to all NAVHOSP, BUMED and CDC Immunization policies.
  • Instruct patients on how equipment is used such as oxygen, suction, cardiac monitor and pulse oximeter. Instruct patients and family on use of prescribed medications, contraindications of medications, and the necessity of proper follow-up care.
  • Prepare patient electronic health record and other appropriate forms prior to patient’s appointment.
  • Assist the MCMH team in managing many aspects of patient’s care: referrals, hospitalizations, ER visits, ancillary testing, and other aspects of patient care; as directed, to achieve optimum outcomes in a safe and cost effective manner.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with consulting providers, hospitals, ERs and other frequently utilized healthcare resources to serve as a bridge across the continuum for the patient.
  • Coordinate consult, referral, and follow-up tracking process for the practice.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE LPN:

  • One year of practical or vocational nurse experience after graduation.
  • Certificate degree or higher.
  • Graduate from an accredited community college, junior college, college, university or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In lieu of graduation from an ACEN Accredited program, the LPN may be a graduate from a State Board of Nursing or accredited nursing program.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license (any state or U.S. Territory) to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • U.S. Citizen (for access to Government computer systems)
