Position Summary Statement:

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Associate Director of Development, oversees, coordinates, and executes The Arc Prince George’s County’s (The Arc’s) new prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of facilitating the creation of philanthropic relationships and growing organizational revenue.


The Associate Director of Development must the necessary skills and expertise to develop and cultivate new relationships to raise funds and enhance branding through storytelling and best practices in fundraising. This person will be a proven team player. This position has no direct reports.



Position Responsibilities:


Action Plan Execution


  • Grow annual giving by $75,000 - $100,000 per year for each of the next three years.
  • Research prospects and write solicitation proposals for new grant funding
  • Develop and implement a sustainable lead annual gift stewardship program with a focus on cultivating $1,000+ annually from lapsed or new individual donors and $5,000-plus gifts from previously unsolicited foundation or corporate prospects


External Presence


  • Work in concert with the Chief Development Officer to strategically elevate The Arc’s visibility and position the organization as a leader in the community and general Washington, DC areas as may be appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Development Officer to develop and execute an integrated philanthropy, marketing, and communications strategy to elevate the profile of the organization and attract new donors.
  • Participate in community events, briefings, and nonprofit forums with area funders and potential philanthropic prospects.
  • Identify methods to provide donor incentives
  • Ensure that all necessary State of Maryland charitable registrations and related documents required regularly by funders (i.e. Certificate of Good Standing) are updated and available.


Day-to-Day Management


  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s programmatic and fundraising activities, and partner with relevant program teams to develop and execute philanthropic strategies.
  • Manage a comprehensive donor/funder relations strategy in support of The Arc’s strategic plan
  • Establish annual fundraising goals and objectives, including the development and tracking of the Department’s annual revenue and expense budgets.
  • Assist with Constant Contact e-blasts or other communications activities, as needed

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to drive is a requirement of the position.

Updated 2022 Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Must be familiar with basic office equipment (e.g. computer, facsimile, copier, postage machines, etc.) .

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Relations or Marketing from an accredited educational institution
  • Minimum three (3) years of fundraising experience in a human service, health, or social impact organization, specifically with a focus on cultivating, soliciting and stewarding new gifts of $5,000 or more foundations and/or corporations and $1,000+ annually from individuals, including re-engaging lapsed donors.
  • Excellent communications skills, and experience presenting to internal and external audiences of varied backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Ability to achieve clearly defined and measurable goals.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in managing competing priorities while maintaining high standards of quality and responsiveness.
  • Demonstrated experience working with databases, and experience in translating data for use in developing plans to meet future challenges; Experience with Donor Perfect preferred.
  • Knowledge of social media, ability to post messages and create content, as needed.
  • Ability to apply best fundraising and communication practices to raise money and build the brand of The Arc efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to establish rapport and cultivate relationships with new and existing donors
  • Ability to work closely with and support the efforts of the Chief Development Officer
  • Excellent written, oral communication, and proofreading skills.
  • Must be a highly energetic professional with the ability to enthusiastically connect with donors
  • Multicultural competence and demonstrated ability to work with people from a variety of ethnic, racial, socio-economic, educational, linguistic, and religious backgrounds, as well as people of various physical abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and generations.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment where teamwork, collegiality and self-motivation are necessary for success.
  • Strong project management skills, coupled with the ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Excellent solution-oriented skills with an ability to respond quickly to changing priorities.
  • Proven ability to follow up with colleagues to ensure tasks are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Highly computer literate, with some database management or data entry experience.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively on virtual platforms and remotely
