Position Summary:

Responsible for developing and executing strategies and tactics to support mission and revenue priority activities, driving community relevance in support of organization-wide efforts; provides strategic counsel to leadership; advances The Animal Foundation’s mission, goals, and objectives by raising community awareness and understanding of how The Animal Foundation makes an impact in animal welfare.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads strategic planning of all Public Relations supported initiatives including the annual Public Relations plan.

  • Crafts, prepares, and executes writing assignments across platforms including keyword-optimized press releases, pitches, media Q&As, bylines, media responses, speeches, blog posts, executive bios, etc.

  • Develops, manages, and executes editorial calendar.

  • Manages departmental budget.

  • Manages the production of marketing materials and oversees the distribution of said materials.

  • Liaises with external vendors to execute promotional events and campaigns.

  • Assist in analyzing market data to help shape future marketing strategies.

  • Conceptualizes and proactively pitches stories that support the Organization, its programs, and its mission.

  • Works effectively with all departments to support their programs and events as required.

  • Ensures Team Members are receiving necessary, accurate, and integrated information

  • Assists in the management of regular media placements of adoptable animals.

  • Researches and remains current on industry innovations, trends, best practices, and The Animal Foundation’s standing and positions within the industry.

  • Positions Senior Leadership Team as thought-leaders within the animal welfare industry.

  • Provides counsel on social media inquiries and comments.

  • Analyzes, evaluates, and reports on all media/public relations activities as required.

  • Represents The Animal Foundation in all interactions and presents a positive public image.

  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization’s service to its guests by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of a work team.

  • Provides responsive, meaningful, and compassionate service to all guests.

  • Applies the principles of The Animal Foundation’s Core Values toward the goal of bettering self, the organization, and others

  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, or a related field.

  • Four (4) years of professional social public relations and marketing experience.

  • Equivalent combination of formal education and appropriate related experience may be considered.


License & Certification Requirements:

Some positions may require the incumbent to be at least 21 years of age, and possess and maintain a valid Class C Nevada Driver License. For these positions, incumbents under age 25 must possess and maintain a clean driving record, and be licensed for at least three years prior. Those over age 25 must possess and maintain a safe driving record that will allow for acceptable insurance risk to the Foundation.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of social media communications, marketing, and public relations.

  • Principles and practices of public information, media relations, and effective community outreach.

  • Principles and methods of developing effective informational and educational materials for the print and broadcast media.

  • Administrative principles and practices, including goal setting and program development, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Project management and analytical techniques.

  • Functions, activities, and goals of the organization.

  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

  • Techniques for working effectively with co-workers and the public, in person and over a variety of communications media.

Skill in:

  • Developing and maintaining effective media relations.

  • Independently performing professional project and programmatic work in the area(s) to which assigned.

  • Using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines.

  • Making effective oral presentations to large and small groups.

  • Preparing communications and public relations information for diverse audiences.

  • Assessing, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

  • Use of business software and associated computer hardware.

  • Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.

  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing duties.


Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

Physical ability and mobility to work in a typical office environment. Strength to lift and/or move materials weighing up to 10 pounds frequently, 25 pounds occasionally. Vision to read printed materials. Stamina to sit and work with a computer for an extended period. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.


Team Members are continuously exposed to animals, animal waste, cleaning chemicals, high noise, and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and occasional work outdoors for extended periods while exposed to cold and extremely hot temperatures.
