Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Plans and schedules a variety of activity programs that provide physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual opportunities for the residents for all days of the week (including evenings, weekends, and holidays.)
- Plans appropriate activities that meet the needs of the residents: small and large group activities, independent leisure activities, one-on-on activities.
- Prepares and organizes a diverse monthly calendar of activities/events for each level of care in the Health Center. Posts the calendars in prominent areas and distributes them to every resident.
- Prepares a monthly staffing schedule that includes evening, weekends, and holiday coverage.
- Sourcing, training, and monitoring the work of Activities Coordinators.
- Participates in morning meetings, department head meetings, and any other meetings as directed by the facility Administrator.
- Plans a monthly resident council meeting. Takes meeting minutes and ensures that all resident concerns are addressed.
- Prepares quarterly departmental quality assurance and performance improvement reports.
- Develops a record system of resident activity participation/attendance.
- Maintains a database and prepares reports on resident assessments, participation, and satisfaction.
- Ensures that all documentation requirements are met: MDS, assessments, and care plans.
- Participates in interdisciplinary care plan meetings.
- Meets with new residents to introduce the recreational programming and opportunities available.
- Provides ongoing communication with residents and, as necessary, family members.
- Submits budgetary recommendations for equipment and supplies.
- Manages a monthly budget. Processes invoices for departmental vendors and supplies.
- Orders and manages equipment and supplies for the department.
- Arranges regular entertainment, parties, holiday/seasonal programs, and special events for each level of care in the Health Center.
- Coordinates holiday/seasonal decorations for each level of care in the Health Center.
- Attends all Health Center planned functions and coordinates events from beginning to end including setup, running, and breaking down for the event.
- Organizes and supervises a volunteer staff.
- Interacts with residents, guests, and staff in at atmosphere of hospitality.
- Protects the privacy of the resident when communicating oral and written information.
- Adheres to all facility and corporate policies.
- Other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
- Enjoys working with the senior population.

Educational Requirements and Experience:
- Minimum Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
- One to three years activities/recreation experience and/or training (in a skilled nursing facility or assisted living preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Additional educational requirements for providing services in a skilled nursing facility or assisted living with a preference for a Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Art Therapy, or Music Therapy or an Activity Director Certification.
