Tetra Tech, Inc. is currently seeking enthusiastic and experienced field technicians to assist with biological surveys in eastern Oregon and potentially throughout the western US.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ The primary responsibilities will be to conduct general wildlife and habitat surveys, and Washington ground squirrel surveys
+ Opportunities for vegetation surveys including rare plant clearances and noxious weeds surveys, and wetland delineations may arise
+ Surveys will be completed following established protocols
+ This position requires extensive travel during the field season, with some day trips from Portland and overnight travel for up to 10 days anticipated
+ Travel will include hotels
+ The ideal candidate will have experience conducting field work, including surveying, and hiking in remote areas
+ Following fieldwork office tasks may include data entry and assisting with report preparation
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION:
+ Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, or related field, or working toward this type of degree with a minimum of 12 semester hours
+ Knowledge and/or experience identifying wildlife and conducting field work
+ Experience with electronic field data collection devices and software (GPS units, ArcPad, etc)
+ Ability to use standard office software (excel, word, etc).
+ Experience with other natural resources surveys (botany/vegetation surveys, wetland delineations) a plus
+ Attention to detail and good communication skills
+ Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enjoy working outdoors
OTHER DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
+ A strong background of coursework and/or experience in wildlife biology and conducting field work is important
+ Attention to detail, ability to work independently, willingness to work as part of team, and the ability to stay positive and effective during long days in the field are critical
+ Applicants must be willing to work in sometimes difficult conditions, and often miles from the truck
+ Physical challenges typically encountered may include long off trail hikes, steep slopes, snakes, ticks, 4X4 roads, and extremes of hot and cold
+ The successful applicant will be safety conscience, and continually assess ways to mitigate hazards
+ Applicant must possess a valid driver's license and have experience driving a four-wheel drive pickup truck on rough terrain.
