We are looking for:

The Product Applications Engineer performs applications engineering activities for the Conair Product Management function. This position reports to the V.P. of Product Development & Customer Care and is in Cranberry Township or Franklin, Pennsylvania. The position requires a willingness to dive into equipment and system configurations to support the sizing and application of products. The use of technology and engineering know-how should be used to help continuously improve, error proof, and streamline the process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilizing engineering principles and laboratory test data, generates and uses “Sizing Tools” that predict the performance of plastics auxiliary applications equipment, based upon resin properties, customer requirements, throughput, and other applications specific inputs. These sizing tools may be in Microsoft Excel, or programmed, and are designed to allow Conair Sales personnel to properly select and configure the right equipment for a specific application.
  • Serves as an expert to help size and configure Conair equipment, when parameters fall outside of those already programmed into the sizing tools. Update sizing tools based upon new learnings.
  • Work with Product Managers and the IT team to develop Product Configurators in Oracle CPQ (Big Machines) software; Provide the necessary sizing calculations, product tree information, options, Bills Of Material (BOM’s) and configurations to generate robust product configurators that can be used in the majority of applications.
  • Train others in the use of sizing tools and configurators.
  • Participates in R&D Lab activities; designs and implements lab tests, resulting in improved sizing tools and verifying product performance.
  • Utilize CAD systems to generate 2-D and 3-D drawings to convey desired end-states for product development.
  • Coordinate with India-based engineers to generate stack-up drawings, line layouts and process flow diagrams for sales support.
  • Periodic travel to customer job sites, both pre and post order, to obtain critical information to properly configure and bid Conair equipment and engineered systems. Periodic travel to different Conair plants.
  • Assist in specifying outside purchased equipment/components that complement Conair equipment. Work with vendors to properly configure buyout items.
  • Assist Product Managers in providing information needed to provide successful installations, including reviewing systems orders to verify proper systems integration.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field);
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; Able to address customers and Conair staff in discussing product configuration and work progress. Engages in dialog with internal staff to ensure proper information is provided and communicated.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to analyze complex equipment arrangements;
  • Has 2D and 3D CAD proficiency;
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks;
  • Must be adaptable and able to effectively manage in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of Conair or other plastics auxiliary equipment is a plus.
