Company DescriptionTelamon is an eleven-state, non-profit corporation headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina serving communities for 55 years.Telamon's mission is to provide educational services that lead to better jobs, better lives, and better communities.Telamon provides programs and services in three areas, Early Childhood and Family Support, Workforce Career Services, and Housing & Financial Empowerment.Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:Execute the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program to promote housing stability among very low-income veteran families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Interview clients, assessing their situations, capabilities, and problems to determine what services are required to meet their needs and document eligibility for program admission.2. Refer clients to community resources for services, such as job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, medical treatment...
transportation or financial assistance, and provide concrete information, such as where to go and how to apply.Assist in completing applications when necessary.3. Assist clients to with the development of goals and housing stability plans tailored to individual needs.4. Maintain confidential case history records in accordance with SSVF requirements, both paper and electronic.Ensure tracking of customer information and produce applicable reports.5.
Serve as community liaison to advocate on behalf of veterans and develop partnerships to coordinate available services.6. Work in coordination with Housing Counselor to assist clients with budget management and credit counseling issues to assist them in reaching financial independence and permanent housing.7. Prepare informational materials to keep Veterans and others informed regarding changes in benefits or eligibility requirements.8.
Participate in community-wide meetings addressing issues and barriers to homelessness.9. Actively engages in staff meetings and conference calls.10. Participate in professional development activities.11.
Fill in during other staff absence.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:NoneQualificationsROLE QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience Requirements:Bachelor degree in Social Work or related field.SPDAT and HMIS certification within 90 days of hire.3 years of experience with veterans, homeless or other high risk populations.Skills and Abilities:Problem-solving, arithmetic calculationsAbility to effectively communicate in a professional manner, both orally and in writingMicrosoft Office products and on-line client management systemsAdditional InformationESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Occasional lifting (10-25 lbs)Keyboarding and data entry, use of telephoneWork is primarily performed in an office setting.Subject to long periods of sitting and exposure to computer screen.Home visits to customer residences, exposure to potentially unsafe environments, climb stairs, kneeling.Driving, including occasionally transporting clientsOccasional overnight travel (approximately 2 per year for 2 days)Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions.We are an equal opportunity employer.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status
