The Release Train Engineer is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART). You are the master of the scrum masters, charged with clearing the path of impediments, keeping all streams moving, finding and maintaining the right resources, and keeping both scrum team members and business and technology leaders apprised of progress against objectives. You will utilize JIRA and other software packages to surface key metrics, and will be an advocate for your teams and your train in all things; while you are not directly accountable for any one individual feature, you are the engineer that keeps the train on the tracks and ensures successful delivery for the team members who are aligned to the work. Your style is fearless, passionate, compassionate, and patient, and you are a superior communicator, ally, advocate, and change agent.
Event and Ceremony Facilitation
Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART using various tools, such as the Program Board, Kanban Boards and other information radiators
Facilitate Program Increment (PI) planning including estimation and creation of sprint (iteration) schedule; Facilitate PI Planning readiness via fostering the preparation of Backlogs and via Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
Facilitate key ceremonies including Scrum of Scrums, Inspect and Adapt, PO Sync, ART Sync and other program level meetings
Coordinate activities and enable collaboration across all impacted teams / areas
Aggregate Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency
Train Level Reporting, Metrics and overall Transparency
Track and report on progress of epic, feature, costs, benefits etc. using appropriate tools (JIRA, Clarity, etc.) Includes tracking and managing the epic and train budget; understand and operate within the ART Budget.
Develop and maintain scorecards and productivity metrics consistent with governance standards, including sprint and product burndown and velocity charts
Report planning results and epic status to senior management, business owners, epic owners, product owners, and other stakeholders by combining metrics into a Program level reporting view
Alignment with Portfolio and other Trains/Teams
Work with Product Management, Product Owners, and other value stream stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment across trains
Cross application/ department/ function release planning, coordination and execution
Collaborative, excellent communication, holistic view and systems thinker who builds relationships, credibility, and collaboration across diverse groups
Acts as a servant leader and must have the ability to lead and coach without having authority

Ability to speak with people of all backgrounds and expertise, connecting with business leaders and technologists
BS or BA required, MS or MBA desired
5 years of RTE and/or SCRUM Master related experience using SAFe Agile delivery frameworks
5 years of Business Program or portfolio management experience
Experience managing virtual and global distributed teams as well as working in a matrixed environment
RTE or other SAFe certification desired
Demonstrated hands on leadership of large-scale process development/improvement initiatives
