We are currently accepting applications for the following Internship: 

Digital News Content Internship  

The Digital News Content Intern will assist with the development of KING 5’s Digital News Content. The intern will report to the Digital Content Manager.

Hours: Flexible

Duration: 6 Months

Duties: The Digital News Content Intern will be responsible for writing news articles and headlines, copy editing text, editing photos and video. Duties will also include using social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter to collaborate with our vibrant online community and promote the content getting published on our website and app. 

Qualifications: Solid journalistic writing and editing skills.Experience with digital publishing tools and image editing software like Photoshop. Knowledge and proficiency in social media tools, especially Facebook. Demonstrate awareness and interest in digital journalism.

What does KING 5 look for in an intern?  Ideal candidates for KING 5 internships are current college students in their Junior or Senior year, with at least one quarter remaining before graduation. Qualified students must have strong written and oral communication skills and be interested in a broadcasting career.

Why an internship program?  KING 5 has offered undergraduate internships for many years. The station remains committed to the belief that practical work experience adds realism to classroom theory and concepts. KING 5 views internships as a vital part of a student's preparation for employment. Our Seattle facility provides a unique setting where students can experience firsthand the reality of working in broadcasting. Through the Undergraduate Internship Program, KING 5 invests in tomorrow's workforce by offering challenging educational opportunities today.

What can students gain from the program?  The classroom setting provides an excellent forum for acquiring and analyzing information; likewise, a successful internship affords students the chance to apply what they have learned in class to real life situations. As an intern at KING 5, students can test their creative talent, exercise their analytical skills and increase their understanding of broadcast operations and industry trends. In addition, through their interactions with established professionals, interns often find mentors and role models who can facilitate their career planning.

Is college credit for my internship required?  Yes. Confirmation from the University of enrollment in the for-credit internships will be required. The allocation of college credit is at the discretion of your local college or university. Students are responsible for meeting any university registration requirements. The final authority on credits received remains with the university and/or its designated representative.

How many hours are required for internships?  KING 5’s digital internships are for six months.

Hours are to be arranged according to the needs of the department and the scheduling requirements of individual interns. Most part time interns will work at least 20 hours per week, with specific days and times agreed upon in advance.

Are internships paid or unpaid?   Internships are paid $16 per hour. The number of internships available will vary each quarter.
