Project summary:

USAID's Advancing Food Fortification Opportunities to Reinforce Diets (USAID AFFORD) program is a critical investment in a safety net against micronutrient deficiencies through large-scale food fortification (LSFF). TechnoServe and its partners bring a unique set of knowledge, skills, and relationships to significantly increase access to safe and nutritious foods to hundreds of millions of consumers, and to sustainably deliver fortified staple foods and condiments to the world's most vulnerable populations.

USAID AFFORD is designed to provide operational support to field Missions and other operating units of USAID, contributing to the goals of the U.S. government Global Food Security Strategy (GFSS) through the implementation of programming aligned with USAID's LSFF Results Framework. USAID AFFORD seeks to safely and sustainably reduce micronutrient inadequacies and improve diets, particularly for women and children, through LSFF of staple foods and condiments.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

TechnoServe seeks a Senior Global Engagement Specialist to support its work in strengthening global and regional engagement, coordination, and knowledge-sharing. Responsibilities include:

  • Support planning, management, and facilitation of meetings and events with diverse stakeholders, at the national, regional, and global level.
  • Lead the development of project deliverables such as technical briefs, presentations, reports, and assessments; oversee process from conceptualization stage through to writing, editing, and dissemination.
  • Identify key priorities and strategic activities for longer-term engagement with global and regional stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of annual work plans, proposing strategic activities in line with the project results framework and identified needs.
  • Monitor progress against work plan for Intermediate Result 4 (strengthening global commitment and coordination), following up and providing support to ensure timely achievement of project activities
  • Support national program staff to carry out policy and advocacy activities, such as stakeholder analyses, development of advocacy strategies, and production of communications materials to support policy change; build capacity of project staff in coordination and advocacy as needed.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders such as the Scaling up Nutrition movement, Global Fortification Technical Advisory Group, and regional food fortification alliances to stay abreast of recent developments and promote opportunities for collaboration with USAID AFFORD
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen technical and operational capacity of regional and national capacity in the areas of coordination, knowledge-sharing, advocacy, and engagement
  • Support the development of a global technical community of practice for large-scale food fortification, working closely with other global partners to identify timely topics and opportunities, and plan events such as webinars, workshops, and conference participation.
  • Coordinate with the Knowledge Management Manager in developing a global knowledge hub for LSFF
  • Collaborate with Global Engagement Lead on other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in international relations/development, public health, nutrition, public affairs, or other relevant degree, and 5 years of professional experience in donor-funded programs. Or Master's Degree, plus 3 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in multi-sectoral coordination and/or advocacy, preferably in the nutrition or food security sector.
  • Experience working in developing country contexts

Languages: English required. French language skills preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years' experience in the field of nutrition, food fortification, food systems, or other related fields.

  • Experience in planning, managing and, facilitating multi-stakeholder meetings and events.
  • Understanding of key principles and challenges in large-scale food fortification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to build rapport and communicate persuasively and confidently with decision-makers and other stakeholders
  • Strong writing skills (both technical and non-technical audiences), with an emphasis on developing concise, targeted communications such as policy briefs, technical summaries, and presentations for different audiences.
  • Innovative and resourceful, with proven ability to overcome obstacles and make independent judgment calls with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while managing multiple tasks and activities
  • Highly motivated to grow, develop, and take on new challenges over time

Travel: International Travel up to 25%
