General Job Description:

A key member of the Operations team, the Manufacturing and Quality Engineer will report to the VP of Operations and oversee product and process quality at our manufacturing facility and reverse logistics/repair operation. The main location will be at Track Groups main office in Naperville, IL, but the employee is expected to spend a significant amount of time at the fulfillment center in Glendale Heights, IL.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Extract of Related Duties

Manufacturing Support

- Coordinate and schedule engineering sign-off activities in front of build.- Coordinate selection of alternate parts- Schedule consignment stock arrival in front of builds- Conduct build close-out evaluations and follow-ups- Implement and secure sign-off on previous manufacturing round close-outs- Liaise with Engineering and Main Office

Bill of Materials

-Responsible for owning company’s doc control / BOM system and processes, and improving those system to meet the need of company growth including potential implementation of PLM system

-Keep revision control BOM and part numbers- Update BOM with alternate parts when necessary- Enter Engineering requested changes and updates- Oversee BOM distribution and signoffs where applicable

Engineering/Manufacturing Drawings

- Oversee distribution and signoffs where applicable- Ascertain implementation of new drawings with end users- Control central repository

Work Instructions and Procedures

-Identify needs for process and test improvements and participate in developing such improvements, coordinating with Engineering as needed

-Maintain work instructions for the Supply Chain- Oversee distribution and signoffs where applicable- Ascertain implementation of new drawings with end users- Control central repository

Incoming Inspection (QA)

-Drive process improvements based on incoming inspection results

-Keep and coalesce incoming inspection logs- Document manufacturing issues, corrective actions and field report

Field Issue Escalation

- Design a field issue log report- Set issue escalation process from field to Ops/HW (ticket system)- Compile corrective action reports to field

Field Failure Tracking

- Keep field failure records and oversee metrics- Highlight problem areas and coordinate resolution of issues- Target product with common denominators frequently returning for repair (frequent fliers)

-Propose and coordinate process/ product improvements

Reverse Logistic Touch Time

- Track process changes impact on unit cost

-Improve processes

Process Audit

- Audit adherence to vendor process and work instructions- Select devices to be sent for workmanship review by Engineering

Manufacturing/processing Equipment/Testers

- Keep testers' calibration logs and schedules- Keep testers calibrated and ensure consistency between testers- Ensure functionality and existence of back-up equipment and/or solution- Oversee tester log repositories and backups

Qualifications:

  • Minimum B.Sc. in relevant engineering discipline or relevant technical background with manufacturing and/or as a technician
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ambitious and serious – self started with minimum supervision
  • Good communication skills
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills
