The Parts and Service Manager/Service Writer is a leadership role that helps ensure the flow of production of sold repairs and service in the shop. This is accomplished by assigning work to techs, and coaching and mentoring techs. The Parts and Service Manager/Service Writer oversees the service department and is responsible for controlling costs, building a loyal clientele, maintaining good employee relations, helping set and obtain sales and profit objectives and maintaining service records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Manage the effective flow of work and maximize completed “billed hours” in the shop: Performs inspections and in partnership with Owner, assigns sold repairs & services to technicians to ensure the highest level of “billed hour” production. Answers questions from technicians to help them move past hindrances from completing repairs and services.
Completing Services and Repairs on customer’s vehicles: Parts and Service Manager/Service Writer’s are expected to be mastery-level experts in their craft and are expected to complete services and repairs with excellence, integrity, precision, and extreme care.
Partner with Office Staff to deliver on Company Sales Goals with Integrity: Parts and Service Manager/Service Writer's are expected to inspect vehicles and quote needed repairs and services to each customer. At times, Parts and Service Manager/Service Writer will be asked to work directly with customers to explain the condition of the vehicle and answer questions the customer may have about their needed services or repairs.
Quality Control: Perform Quality Control for fellow technicians and cleaning on vehicles if General Service Tech is unable, all in accordance with company procedures.
Cleaning & Prep: Assist in keeping shop area clean, safe, free of debris and other hazards. Additional responsibilities and duties may be necessary based on the needs of the business.
Manage, Mentor, and Coach: The Parts and Service Manager/Service Writer role acts as a manager, mentor, and coach to technicians, helping them complete difficult repairs, increase their efficiency, assist with diagnostics, or providing direction in difficult situations. Manages technicians performance in partnership with Owner.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Assist with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recommending reward and discipline of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Follow all safety and security procedures.
Work effectively within a team.
Complete other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree (or higher) in auto technology is beneficial; Professional certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is preferred.
Previous experience as a service advisor is advantageous.
Must possess a valid US Driver's License, be insurable on shop insurance policy, and possess the ability to drive a vehicle with passengers.
3 years or more of practical experience working as a technician in a automobile repair facility.
Demonstrative skills in leading/managing people.
Masterly-Level knowledge of passenger automobile workings and systems, Masterly-Level knowledge and skill in passenger automobiles diagnostics including using a diagnostic tree, performing testing procedures to discover the cause (and repairs needed) to correct a customers complaint, Masterly-Level Knowledge, ability, and skill in performing mechanical repairs and services on passenger automobiles including removing and reinstalling of parts, and doing service procedures, Masterly-Level Knowledge and skill of how to perform a thorough inspection on a passenger automobile for the purpose of finding service and repairs needed based on the miles and condition of the vehicle.
Ability to clearly communicate in English with others verbally and in various written forms. Spanish-speaking preferred.
Ability to communicate in written form both with hand-written communication and typed communication. Ability and knowledge of how to use a computer and diagnostic tools to diagnose vehicles, look up repair instructions, and access Customer Management Software. This includes the ability to view a monitor, and use touch screens mice and keyboards.
Ability to lift more than 50 lbs without assistance.
Ability be able to stand for periods of up to 60 min at a time.
Skilled and able to perform basic counting and math.
Ability to perform major and fine motor skill movements using body to perform the necessary actions to complete a repair, service, vehicle inspection, or shop cleaning activity. This also includes the ability to reach overhead, push, pull, bend down, stoop, and other body movements.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. Work indoors or outdoors regardless of weather conditions. The noise level in the environment can be loud.
