Position Description: This is a full-time exempt, remote position (with some ad-hoc visits to the client site) supporting a DoD customer located in Quantico, VA.  The SharePoint Developer position is directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the organization supporting an information management/knowledge management (IM/KM) strategy and integration via business process analysis. The goal of the contract is to analyze existing business process models and create new process models, recommend system enhancements to support processes, and then implement a strategy to integrate those enhancements into organizational practice. Hartwood will provide expertise and guidance on how to modify existing care management, daily operational and administrative processes, and tools to allow integration of IM/KM requirements in support of the IM/KM strategy. 


The position requires the utilization of multiple scripting languages to extend and surpass the limitations of out-of-the-box SharePoint capabilities. The position requires knowledge and experience in analysis, design, hands-on development, and delivery of web-based applications within Microsoft SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online (SPO) using proficiencies in REST API, .NET, JavaScript, jQuery, InfoPath, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, SharePoint Client-Side Object Model (OM), HTML, CSS, and SPFx. 


In this role, the SharePoint Developer will be required to learn and develop applications utilizing the Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI) and other Microsoft 365 tools (MS Teams, Dynamics, Planner, One Drive). 


The SharePoint Developer will support organization stakeholders to develop in-house web applications and make customizations to existing business applications to meet the specific mission needs including leveraging the SPO platform to automate business processes, encourage knowledge sharing, and improve productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determining the requirements and resources necessary for migrating to SPO.
  • Evaluating and documenting the current design of SharePoint on-premise, including its taxonomy, metadata parameters, security configuration, navigation, site hierarchy, and permission structure; providing recommendations for the design and creation of the separation between development, testing, and production environments in SPO.
  • Documenting current SharePoint architecture, assessing the health of current SharePoint implementation, and developing a roadmap for migration, modernization, and stabilization.
  • Providing a general assessment of existing workflows and a strategy for transitioning each workflow to SPO.
  • Providing a recommended solution for handling incompatible content and functionality that will not work online such as JavaScript, custom pages, web parts, and discontinued features.
  • Examining Microsoft and third-party software applications (e.g., CorasWorks, Fab 40, InfoPath forms, integrated calendar apps) currently used and provide recommendations to include these in transitioning to SPO.
  • Establishing standards and best practices for SPO development.
  • Leading demonstration and assessment sessions that establish a common understanding of the work plan, including dependencies and responsibilities, project deliverables, and work products.
  • Redesigning custom SharePoint client-side solutions from SharePoint 2013 to SPO by utilizing the advanced features from SPO.
  • Creating Metadata Term Store, Catalogs, Term-driven navigation, and Display Templates.
  • Developing front end using web languages like HTML, Bootstrap, JavaScript, CSS, XSLT, XML jQuery, and Rest API.
  • Implementing and customizing SharePoint-based solutions using best practices.
  • Working with SharePoint Designer workflows.
  • Collaborating with Hartwood and client developers to design and implement application features.
  • Helping develop test cases and documenting technical features of the application. 
  • Use best practices when writing code.
  • Developing user and administration guides for any custom-developed applications.
  • Troubleshooting any issue with the current application as well as participating in the development of new product features.
  • Supporting all program/project planning and milestone development.
  • Providing Weekly Status Reports on SharePoint tasks and activities.
  • Briefing leadership on progress.

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Must have and maintain an active DoD Security Clearance (SECRET).
  • Must have current CompTIA Security+ Certification. 
  • 7+ years of dedicated experience as a SharePoint Developer and administering and migrating SharePoint features and solutions.
  • Experience with modern SharePoint architecture and implementation.
  • Ability to identify necessary interfaces between enterprise solution applications and legacy IT environments.
  • Working knowledge of interoperability of SharePoint 2013 and SPO with other Office products.
  • Working knowledge of advanced features of SharePoint 2013, SPO, and MS Power Platform.
  • Working knowledge of InfoPath, SharePoint Designer, and SharePoint workflows.
  • Must have a working knowledge of NET, REST API, JavaScript, jQuery, InfoPath, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, SharePoint Client-Side Object Model (OM), HTML, CSS, SPFx, and PowerShell to further enhance the look and feel and boost functionality within SharePoint when using these methods.
  • Must have hands-on experience in consuming Web Services using SOAP, REST, and JSON.
  • Must have a hands-on working knowledge of the configuration and setting for SharePoint WebParts, especially in the areas of List Filters, WebPart Filters, and Search and Data Connections.
  • Advanced debugging skills using F12 and Google developer tools as well as Fiddler to debug system-wide technical problems.
  • Must be highly organized and have excellent oral and written communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation), along with the ability to interpret client requirements.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and with a team.
  • Highly organized, with excellent oral and written communication skills; must be comfortable leading, directing, and making presentations to large audiences.
  • Excellent documentation skills with the ability to manage, organize information and take requirements.   
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must exhibit an independent interest in the use of new technologies, tools, and professional development.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, or a related IT Degree is required (8 years of experience can replace the education requirement).

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • SharePoint Certification (2013 or SPO) 
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals 
  • Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Fundamentals
