Raw Materials Trader

Position Description

 Continuously investigates new suppliers and consumers of ferrous scrap and raw materials while developing
and building relationships with individuals responsible for buying and selling.
 Continuously investigates new sources of scrap and develops relationships with individuals responsible for
selling the scrap.
 Contributes market research and forecasting to coordinate the development of micro and macro-level
strategies; while also being responsible for presenting growth initiatives, value-added ideas, and cross-selling
within other divisions of TMS.
 Significant travel (50%-80%) meeting with accounts on-site to determine opportunities, as well as establish
and maintain effective business relationships.
 Maintain quality standards and resolve discrepancies in accordance with TMS’s management guidelines.

Qualifications

 The Ideal Candidate will have a BA/BS in Business Administration or related degree and 3-5 years trading
experience in scrap metals or a related industry.
 Must be knowledgeable of all aspects associated with brokered scrap as well as being cognizant of current
market conditions to provide an optimum total cost approach.
 Must be a self-starter with the ability to initiate business as well as possess strong negotiating and problem-
solving skills.
 Must be an effective communicator.
 Must have the ability to effectively perform both independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
with a commitment to cooperation and collaboration among business functions.
 Must be proficient with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word as well as ERP software.
 Must possess strong oral and written skills; be adept in statistical analysis and market research; and, have a
strong knowledge of the scrap recycling industry.
 Must possess integrity, leadership, decision-making, and entrepreneurial skills.
