Site Safety Manager - Centralia

Summary:
The primary focus of this role is to provide direct safety & health support to the management team at Willamette Valley Company Centralia location. The Site Safety Manager will work closely with the Regional Safety & Health Specialist, to build a positive safety culture, and ensure compliance with Company and regulatory safety and health requirements. Under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager, the Site Safety Manager will communicate with other departments and managers to prioritize projects across departments to meet Company and Site specific goals and objectives.
Primary Duties:
- Collaborate proactively with Operations teams to effectively promote safety and health at work site, and serve as subject matter expert (SME) regarding Company and regulatory safety and health requirements.
- Support Safety Committee at work site. Provide support and guidance for safety and health initiatives. Ensure the alignment of local safety and health strategies with corporate goals.
- Inspect facilities, equipment, and work practices to ensure compliance with Company safety and health standards, and regulatory expectations. Order the suspension of activities that pose unnecessary risk to workers' safety or health.
- Respond to environmental, safety and health related incidents and support Operations teams in the completion of required reports and analyses of the events for causes and contributing factors. Log incidents as required into electronic systems for tracking/trending/planning purposes.
- Coordinate/oversee industrial hygiene and environmental testing/sampling inspections and related activities at work site. (Noise surveys, chemical exposure monitoring, asbestos sampling, water sampling, etc.), and document using approved company software.
- Prepare training materials and conduct safety and health training for workers. Demonstrate the use of required tools and equipment during training as necessary. Log training as required into electronic systems for tracking/trending/planning purposes.
- Provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
- Prepare reports/presentations as necessary to communicate findings from inspections, incident analyses, industrial hygiene and environmental testing, etc. Recommend effective corrective and preventive actions, and follow-up with Operations teams periodically until complete.
- Coordinate and/or support safety and health inspections by regulatory bodies at work site. Develop cooperative, proactive working relationships with regulatory bodies.
- Support the Safety & Health Director in developing strategies and programs, for safety and health issues, especially those related to risk reduction and process safety ventures.
- With Plant Manager, establish goals and objectives to meet safety goals for the facility.
- Communicate with management to resolve issues that prevent meeting the goals and objectives. Communication should be well in advance of missing planned schedule.
- Assist with environmental monitoring including SWACCA and Storm Water program.
- Keep complete, accurate, and timely records
- Communicate and administer WVCO workplace rules
Non-Essential Duties:
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting software applications
- Perform miscellaneous duties as requested by plant manager.
Experience:
Required
- High School or Technical School diploma or equivalency
- Minimum of 2 years related experience and/or training in a manufacturing or production environment (includes mechanical/machinery and/or electrical)
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job
- Basic understanding of firefighting procedures, lock-out/tag-out, rigging, welding, cutting, confined space, and basic electrical safety.
Preferred
- Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
- Minimum of 5 years related experience in an industrial safety role in a manufacturing or production environment (includes mechanical/machinery and/or electrical)
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job
- Thorough knowledge of firefighting procedures, lock-out/tag-out, rigging, welding, cutting, confined space, and basic electrical safety.
