Job Description

Our client is one of the world’s leading suppliers of radiation-curing printing inks and coatings used for a variety of applications such as in labels, molded articles, food packaging and more. This European company operates branches and subsidiaries in over ten countries and serves customers in over 80 countries worldwide. The Company’s US subsidiary has been serving its North American clients for over 30 years, operating multiple branches across the U.S. as well as in Canada and Mexico.  

Our client is actively seeking a dynamic and strategic executive to lead its North American operations. This position will be instrumental in running the sales and operational activities of the company in the USA, leveraging over 100 local employees and the global expertise of the company as part of a well-organized, already very profitable organization with a lot of room to grow.

The current organization encompasses all key corporate functions in the United States - from application engineering, R&D, procurement, manufacturing to marketing and sales – as well as IT and finance. This all-American platform is supported by a global yet nimble player so that even very demanding, customized applications can be developed quickly and efficiently. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide hands-on leadership and vision to the US organization and oversee day-to-day operations. 

  • Actively manage the U.S. subsidiary’s P&L.  

  • Provide proactive leadership, professional development and mentoring for the US team.  

  • Manage the development and execution of mid- and long-term plans, priorities, and goals to achieve business objectives. 

  • Proactively monitor the financial situation of the company – pay close attention to gross margins, overhead costs, assets, liabilities and the associated documents (income statement, balance sheet and cash-flow statement etc.).

  •  Interface regularly with the European headquarters and cooperate closely with the colleagues of the company’s global management team.

  • Manage and oversee the affiliated companies in Canada and Mexico incl. development of local strategies, growth initiatives and fulfillment of all legal and financial local requirements. 

  • In close collaboration with the sales lead, define, implement, and drive the North American market strategy as part of the company’s overall global strategic growth agenda. 

  • Together with the sales lead, manage new and existing key strategic national accounts by regularly interacting with new and existing clients and prospects. 

  • Provide exemplary operational management (including production, quality management, sales, business development). 

  • Implement a continuous improvement mindset to all aspects of sales, customer service, production, logistics, warehousing, and distribution and identify opportunities for cost-savings and margin increases. 

  • Represent the organization in important external business relationships with major clients, joint venture partners, and the public. 

  • Continuously streamline and optimize all business processes.

  •  Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Key Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or any related discipline is required; a graduate degree (MBA) would be desirable. 

  • Several years of leadership experience in sales, business development and strategy coupled with operations and manufacturing background, ideally from within the ink or paint industry or chemical industry. 

  • Particular experience in printing inks would be a strong advantage. 

  •  Experience working in an international environment would be beneficial as well as strong understanding of the culture of German  / European medium-sized, family-owned companies.

  •  Prior budget management and P&L responsibility preferred.

  • An existing rolodex of industry contacts in relevant industries would be a plus. 

  • Demonstrated experience in propelling strategic growth, business development and, to a slightly lesser extent, in the operational management of production facilities.
