We are seeking a skilled and motivated professional to work as a software engineer developing enterprise level back-end systems to our project in Salt Lake City
Our engineering teams work in an agile development environment to develop and deliver world class applications and systems. These backend systems are integral to the processing, storage and retrieval of massive amounts of genealogical records and images. Our typical backend systems are created in Java, supported by huge databases, and hosted in the Cloud (AWS).
We need software engineers who are excited and passionate about leveraging innovative technologies and contributing their talents to the work of the Church in Family History.
80% Assigned software development tasks - Designing, developing, and testing new or existing software.
10% Working as a member of a software engineering team participating in team meetings, team planning sessions, setting team goals, and all other team activities.
10% Self-directed, or classroom instruction, in the areas of Church software development processes, industry best practices, and new technologies being adopted by their current organization
3-5 years of enterprise level software engineering
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent engineering experience
Strong software development background, especially Object Oriented (OO) development
Significant, demonstrated programming experience in an OO language: for example, Java, C#, C++, etc.
Experience with multiple Java APIs and frameworks is a plus.
RESTful web services
Database (DB) query and management experience:
Significant SQL experience required. Must be able to quickly create powerful queries against complex DB schema
Understanding of web infrastructure architecture and technologies including:
Experience or familiarity with big data processing is a significant plus
Apache Hadoop Map-Reduce
Solid understanding of XML, JSON, etc
Ability to work well in an agile development environment
Strong work ethic independently and also as a collaborating team member
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply professional judgement
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy.
