Nurse Practitioner & Physician Assistant-Neurosurgery

Job Description

Our client, a well renowned Academic Medical Center located in the New York City area has an opening for a Nurse Practitioner, Neurosurgery. The Nurse Practitioner, Neurosurgery is responsible for the coordination and direct care of patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary health care services and arranges diagnostic tests as ordered by physicians.
  • Administer appropriate injections and medications as ordered by medical providers in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines. Educate patients and staff on pharmacological/drug effects and protocol requirements, if applicable.
  • Attend workshops, seminars and/or conferences to keep abreast of standards and best practices within the field.
  • Triage patient inquiries and communicate test results.
  • Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and triage calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Record medical information within the patients? electronic medical record as instructed by the physician.
  • Participate in safety programs and orientation of new staff. Assist in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
  • Manage the care of selected patients using protocols agreed upon by medical/nursing personnel.
  • Gather, complete, and deliver all pre-operative requirements required for surgery.
  • Review discharge summaries and operative notes for accuracy.
  • Assess patient eligibility and reviews patient medical history for inclusion in clinical studies.
  • Review and complete protocol history sheets, flow sheets, study follow-up reports and patient evaluation forms.

Requirements:

·       Master’s of Science Degree in Nursing

·       2+ years of clinical experience as an NP in a physician practice or hospital setting, preferably within a related specialty.

·       NYS Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration

·       Applicable National Board Certification (such as ANCC, PNCB, etc)

·       Current BLS (must be issued by American Heart Association)

·       Infection Control Certificate

·       Current Narcotics DEA registration certificate
