Currently, ALTA IT Services is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Network Engineer in South Burlington, VT, Camp Springs, MD, or in a location to be determined upon offer acceptance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Work with lower support tiers to provide incident and problem resolutions for all network related issues and maintain the health of the network
Resolve issues related to third parties and vendors. 
Monitor ticket queues. 
Update knowledge-based articles (KBA) and standard operating procedures (SOP) to troubleshoot issues to minimize resolution time, ensuring SLAs and SLOs are met. 
Support critical incidents until resolved and documented. 
Provide root cause analysis, debrief on troubleshooting outcome, and lessons learned.
Collaborate with counterparts to manage the full change request lifecycle coordinating with the user who submits the CR to open, resolve, and track each to closure. 
Provide subject matter expertise to identify opportunities and make recommendations for improvements that could result in cost saving.
Meet with management regularly to review recommendations and devise plans for enhancements.
Deliver new and updated services including DNS management (Infoblox), VLAN assessment
Troubleshoot switch and router connectivity
Use Agile tools such as JIRA, Confluence and MS Teams to provide transparency and allow information to be visible in real time and to create a unified backlog ensuring visibility into all areas of work and identifying inter-dependencies between teams.
Resolve issues related to DHS OneNet, changes to the network, migration initiatives, and related issues identified by USCIS OIT Management, the Network Operations Center, the Security Operations Center, or the Enterprise Operations Center.
Work with the network performance team and provide recommendations on changes required in the environment, on the network, or to any device/service within the infrastructure; and upon government approval, execute the change.
Support and maintenance of the network infrastructure tools to ensure correct operation within the USCIS network infrastructure as directed by USCIS OIT Management.
Review and consult on network designs provided by the USCIS Network Engineering and Architecture, other USCIS contractors or stakeholders.
Review and provide recommendations to government managers for Change requests that are reviewed at the Change Request Boards (CRB).
Work with vendor’s technical support personnel to perform technical analysis, troubleshooting to resolution, provide reports, and user training; document and report all findings.
Create an analysis of tools currently in use and provide the government with recommendations on cost savings.
Provide network assistance and expert advice in the resolution of incidents elevated to the
Critical Incident Response Team.

Monitor the assigned queue(s) for incidents, provide expert analysis to resolve problems, record the resolution into the ticketing system, de-brief on troubleshooting outcomes and provide lessons learned via after-action reports (AARs), incident analysis reports (IARs), or knowledge base (KB) articles.
Provide support for Cloud routers and other network equipment.
Assist Engineering and Architecture team in the rollout of new products and services on the network as needed to include, but not limited to, IP address assignment, VLAN assessments, switching/routing connectivity, and troubleshooting as necessary.
 

Basic Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field preferred. 1-5 years of experience.
Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, collaborative environment.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills required.
Must have strong critical thinking, complex problem solving, appropriate judgment, and decision-making skills
Experience with major cloud providers preferred.
Possess superior technical aptitude and effective written and verbal communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, ITIL v4
Familiar with tools including: ServiceNow, GitHub, Jira, Confluence
Experience with ITIL, DevSecOps and Agile concepts
Experience supporting Government contracts
 

Security Clearance Requirements:

U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain Public Trust and complete DHS Security Clearance
Ability to obtain DHS EOD suitability
Current DHS EOD highly preferred
