Through leading innovations, we help farmers around the world meet the challenge of feeding a growing population and taking care of our planet. To support that challenge, the Trait Conversion Accelerator site in Nampa Idaho is seeking for a Operations Engineer. 

Role Purpose and accountabilities

  • Oversee all seed processing, conveying systems, automation,  transplanting lines operation/maintenance  and inventories process and procedures. 
  • Participate and may lead operations projects. Projects may include process mapping, working areas reconfiguration and material disposal systems.  Recommend cost-effective solutions minimize waste, equipment and/or physical space. Propose projects that will result in improved costs, enhanced quality or increase sustainability. 
  • Lead a team of highly specialized employees in different fields of the operation including safety, inventories management, maintenance and Agronomy. 
  • Run structured technical problem-solving investigations and utilize data driven analysis to provide recommendations and solutions to achieve improvement across controlled environments.
  • Evaluate operations and identify improvement opportunities, utilizing data analysis and metrics to build a business case, and deliver on execution. Monitor operational metrics including workers hours and productivity, analyse data for trends, and collaborate with process owners to improve.
  • Review and analyse work layout, process flow, material flow, etc in controlled environments. Implement cost-effective solutions for improving the utilization and efficiency of personnel, equipment and/or physical space. Lead projects that will result in improved costs and/or enhanced quality.
  • Provide guidance to maintenance service suppliers in all aspect of the operation and including sophisticated controlled environment equipment as well as laboratory. May lead layout changes of moderate size with minimal oversight.
  • Collaboratively working across global, cross-cultural, and functional matrices supporting other sites or special assignments. 
  • Championing evaluation, building and supporting deployment of standard, scalable, fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Keeping pace with technology cycles and delivering productivity gains
Qualifications

Requirement

  • BS in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
  • Operational Excellence and Quality Control
  • Knowledge in process improvement methodologies; experience in process mapping operational processes and identifying efficiency gains
  • Technology implementation and scaling
  • Focus on controlled environment technologies and experience (growth chamber, greenhouse, and/or lab)
  • Strategic planning and budgeting
  • Long-range capacity forecasts and justification for facilities, equipment, and/or manpower requirements 
  • Talent management and development 
  • Managerial and supervisory skills (4 direct reports in current structure)
  • Must be authorized to work for Syngenta in the United States without work authorization sponsorship


Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams 
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in managing projects and stakeholders in a large matrix organization
  • Experience working with R&D workflows and operations
