What Does Synectics Offer?
Synectics is a stable and established company that has been in business for over 25 years, and it's our hope that our employees will find not just a job, but a career with us. Due to our proven successes, we are winning a LOT of work and are about to see a rapid increase in our growth - and workload. All of our staff is trained to interact with personnel of all levels and disciplines within the environmental industry. Even as a new hire, you'll soon be on a first name basis with your group of clients; you will receive many hours of individual training to support you in your role in advancing the use of web based data management systems to solve problems. You will learn about many aspects of environmental projects, along with widely varied technical details, and will acquire advanced skills in data management - a combination that is unmatched in our industry.
We emphasize fairness and equality at Synectics. We value our employees and strive to treat everyone as the important team members that they are - which means that newer hires as well as more seasoned staff are included in opportunities to attend conferences, complete continuing education and training, participate in professional organizations, support high profile projects, travel to meet clients, and interact with senior management. Employees' educated opinions are taken seriously as we believe that all levels of our staff bring talent and viewpoints that will benefit the company and other employees.
Who Excels at Synectics?
Employees who are curious by nature, have a strong desire to learn, like to take initiative, enjoy applying themselves and take satisfaction in work well done will find Synectics to be a great fit. Attention to detail is key, as is a sense of accountability and pride in accomplishments. Consistency, tenacity and the ability to focus even with distractions is important. Being able to see a long term goal clearly while working through whatever it takes to complete day-to-day challenges is a quality of successful employees. It's important to enjoy helping others and to take pleasure in their success - the job here is often something like being a data management coach or personal trainer to your clients, as well as helping teammates to succeed through sharing knowledge. Communication, if you have an issue or concern, and the ability to take responsibility even when things go wrong are highly valued, as is a willingness to take on tasks that may seem out of reach. A good sense of humor and ability to have fun completes the package!
What are Some of the Challenges?
The learning curve at Synectics is steep, and initially new employees may feel unsure of themselves, but that is expected, and within a few months, it will begin to resolve. Specialized training that includes hands on exercises and one-on-one support is provided to ensure that all new hires have everything they need to succeed. Also, people who are not accustomed to working in consulting industries may find government time tracking requirements to be difficult. Because Synectics provides data management services that are still uncommon in our industry, clients and system users can be reluctant to try new things and engage in the necessary processes, even if it will help them in the long run. The scientific data we work with is complex and it can be challenging to try to work through problems with this information, especially when a client wants an answer quickly. Sometimes new work comes in when we weren't expecting it (or even when we were), and staff can feel overextended until a solution is found; that can take a while. Work on federal environmental projects is not 'Big Pharma', 'Oil and Gas', or 'Silicon Valley Tech', and can't be compared to these industries (we think this is a good thing, but that's just us).
Synectics is unique, and it’s a great place to work for the right person. If you've made it this far and are excited about the opportunity to join our team, we would love to meet you, so please submit an application!
