The Alta Bates Summit Comprehensive Cancer Center provides a high level of clinical care in a compassionate community setting. Our primary focus is to meet the unique needs of each of our patients and their families by offering comprehensive, integrated cancer care in a friendly, comfortable environment. Both our medical and radiological oncologists are specialists in many types of cancer, including breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal, as well as leukemias, lymphomas, and myelomas. The Alta Bates Summit Comprehensive Cancer Center provides state-of-the-art care for cancer patients in a community environment. The Cancer Center has one of the East Bay's most extensive cancer care programs, offering advanced treatment options and program support with the following on-site services:
- Medical oncology infusion center for chemotherapy, transfusions and other IV products;
- Radiation therapy planning and treatment center;
- Oncology-focused pharmacy;
- Apheresis center;
- An array of complementary therapies, psycho-social and nutrition support services.
High school diploma or equivalent education/experience required.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician Level I - CPT I required.
Six months comparable hospital experience required.
Understands the importance of positive patient specimen
identification. Tact and diplomacy required for interaction with people under stressful conditions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively with customers and employees.
Receives and prepares for testing, patient specimens, following established procedure to ensure the integrity and positive identification of the specimen submitted.
Stores, directs and disposes patient specimens according to established procedure.
Processes test orders accurately as to priority, test requested, specimens requirements, date and time of service and additional information as provided.
Registers patients and enters orders into hospital or laboratory information system (LIS).
Receives specimens collected into the laboratory information system following established procedures.
Prints reports/logs, evaluates and follows up discrepancies to ensure that all specimen have been accounted for and processed.
Reports complaints in writing from patients, physicians, or other hospital staff to manager.
Maintains clean, well-stocked blood collection trays and/or outpatient drawing rooms.
Answers telephones, taking orders and providing other information as requested.
