One of the first domestic violence centers in the country, Survivor Empowerment Center (formerly The Women's Center, Inc.) was created in 1972 by a group of visionaries who recognized the need for a safe, secure environment for Southern Illinois women and their children. Although our mission to stop domestic violence and sexual assault has remained unchanged, the community and people we serve has changed over the last 50 years. We proudly serve all survivors (women, men, children, trans, non-binary, etc.) of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as their non offending partners or family. We are pro-choice in all aspects of social, educational, financial, family, and legal rights. Our goal is to give a voice to survivors so that they can take charge of their lives.
