Reports to crew/department Supervisor, although may receive orders, direction from senior more experienced employees on the job.
Job Summary: This is the least experienced employee in a crew or department requiring constant supervision as well as training. A Helper is expected to assist the crew as directed by competent leadership. Must be able to perform heavy physical labor, work many hours out in the elements during rain, snow, wind, extreme heat and cold.
Minimum Requirements: Physically fit, 21 years of age, possess valid class A Driver's License, able to be away from home for multiple days at a time. Speak and write in English, capable of understanding and passing testing regarding safety requirements in the field. Pass physical exam and drug test.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Present self at appointed time and place ready and able to perform work as instructed by competent authority.
- Keep workspaces (including vehicles) clean and free of safety hazards at all times. Observe all safety rules at all times. Knows how to use and always utilizes Personal Protective Equipment.
- Assist in rig-ups/rig-downs as well as operation of all equipment during a job. Assist with maintenance of equipment, replenishment of stores and general housekeeping while in the shop.
- Takes instruction on how to operate tools and equipment utilized on the job and in the shop.
- Communicates effectively with co-workers, supervisors and customers.
- Other duties as assigned by competent leadership.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk and hear. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools or controls: reach with hands and arms. Employee will regularly be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. Employee will be constantly exposed to wet/humid/hot weather or cold/wet/snow/sleet weather often to extremes. Hazardous materials are often present and may be handled by the employee, in accordance with previous training regarding such handling. The noise level on a job may be high enough o warrant ear plugs.
