Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Department: Grounds

Reports To: Grounds Manager

Rate of Pay: $22.00/hour

Shift: Varies and on-call


SUMMARY

Assists in all heavy equipment functions and operations related to snow removal, tree and shrub relocation, or removal, ground leveling, excavation, sand and gravel placement, and assists both grounds and parking departments in other related duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Represent Sundance in a positive and professional manner being the example of Sundance service standards.

Responsibly assist in grading, excavation, snow removal, plowing and sanding of resort parking areas and roads by operation of dozer, trackhoe, loader, backhoe, plow and sander truck as needed and on call.

Operate Ranger ATV safely.

Conduct daily vehicle inspections i.e. checking oil and all essential fluids; clearing snow and ice as part of a thorough exterior inspection.

Fuel vehicle following protocols.

Assist as needed in the parking department including help with parking guests, driving shuttle bus, shoveling and snow-blowing walkways.

Assist disabled passengers into and out of vehicle.

Safely drive employees and guests to and from overflow parking lots in twenty-five passenger mini-bus.

Direct guests and employees to suitable parking area to prevent congestion and promote exceptional guest service.

Pacify disgruntled guests utilizing exceptional people skills.

Administer carpool incentive for employees and guests.

Operate radio to communicate professionally with base and other vehicles.

Assist as needed setting up and removing Christmas decorations around the resort.

Demonstrate knowledge about all aspects of the property including lodging, dining, shops, mountain recreation, events, activities and their locations.

Provide helpful information about opportunities of the day, including answering questions and giving directions to their desired venue.

Share the Sundance story of land preservation and environmental commitment as the occasion arises.

Support the recycling program.

Comply with no-idling policy and reduce carbon footprint.

Ensure cleanliness of parking lots and shuttles.

Clean interior and exterior of vehicles.

DRESS CODE

Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele. In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:


All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.

Operational employees are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.

Clothing must be unwrinkled and clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).

Blue jeans are permitted.

Men's shirts must be tucked in.

A tailored fit is required of all clothing.

Tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.

Proper footwear for your department is required.

Flip flops are prohibited in all areas.

Tennis shoes are prohibited in all areas.

If your department allows t-shirts, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

If your department allows baseball caps, they must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

Failure to comply with the dress code policy or enforce dress code and personal appearance policies with their staff, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge and ability to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, snow plow, sander and dozer.


TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS

None.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid U.S. Drivers' License in good standing as determined by Sundance's Insurance Company guidelines.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
