Job Description

Sun Mountain, Inc., a privately-held manufacturer of custom wood doors and other millwork products, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead its finance and accounting functions. This position is located in Berthoud, CO (near Loveland) and provides a competitive base salary, bonus, and excellent benefits. Job Description

The CFO is a financial “business partner” and member of the senior management team, supporting company growth and profitability through strategy formulation and execution. This is a “hands-on” position where doing as well as leading the work is required. The CFO is responsible for financial analysis supporting key business decisions. Responsible for safeguarding company assets and profitability. Plays the role of overall company “auditor.” Responsible for company internal controls and financial reporting, including external reporting (shareholders, regulatory, tax, etc.). Responsible for regulatory (financial) and tax compliance and filings. Responsible for company financial planning and forecasting, including sales, earnings, and cash flow. Responsible for company risk management, including the establishment of appropriate insurance coverages and programs, and review and approval of all contractual agreements of the company. Manages finance and accounting personnel, including organization structure, communication, and performance management/career development. Reports to the General Manager of the company.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Financial Business Partner

  • Member of the senior management team
  • With senior management team, responsible for company growth in sales and profitability
  • Participates in strategy formulation, key decisions
  • Completes strategic planning, analysis and reporting
  • Strategic financial planning (2-5 years), including Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow plans (including capacity plans)

- Financial/ROI analysis of capital investments

- Financial analysis of new business opportunities (new accounts, new channels/markets, acquisitions including valuation/due diligence, etc.)

- Financial analysis of pricing strategies

- Financial analysis of product development initiatives

- Reporting of actual performance versus strategic plans

  • Participates in the execution of strategic plans, as appropriate
  • Completes financial/IT integration of acquisitions
  • Oversees company capitalization:

- Banking relationships

- Banking covenant compliance (N/A at the current time)

- Equity relationships (shareholders)

  • Supports Vendor/Customer relationships
  • Acts as company “auditor”
  • Safeguards company assets and profitability

Financial Planning and Forecasting

  • Leads annual financial planning for the company:

- Establishes planning calendar

- Ensures participation/ownership from appropriate company functions

- Develops accurate product costs (standard costing), including unit volume plans

- Ensures aggregate company financial plans meet strategic financial objectives

  • Completes company financial forecasts, as needed:

- Sales

- Earnings

- Cash Flow

  • Completes regular reviews, reporting of actual performance versus plans and forecasts

Internal Controls/Financial Reporting

  • Manages company financial systems, general ledger, and chart of accounts
  • Manages company general accounting functions (payroll, A/P, AR including credit and collection); in-house payroll, multi-state
  • Develops and implements company financial policies and procedures, ensures compliance
  • Manages company treasury/cash functions
  • Manages internal controls including inventory control
  • Oversees frequent (monthly) and accurate balance sheet reconciliations
  • Applies proper accrual practices, per GAAP
  • Completes timely and accurate financial reporting, both internal and external (i.e. shareholders, banking, regulatory, etc.)
  • Develops meaningful, value-added financial reporting for all functional areas
  • Oversees annual company financial audits/reviews, as applicable

Regulatory/Tax

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and tax requirements
  • Supports third-party CPA in completion of company income tax returns
  • Completes regulatory and tax filings:

- Payroll taxes, withholdings, W-2’s, etc.

- Form 5500’s (benefit plans)

- Real Estate and Property Tax returns

- Sales and Use Tax returns

- Business and vehicle registrations

  • Minimizes company tax expenses (per regulatory rules and laws)
  • Oversees regulatory and tax audits

Risk Management

  • Establishes appropriate levels of key insurance coverages for the company:

- Worker’s Compensation

- General/Commercial/Product and Completed Operations, including Umbrella coverage

- Property

- Fleet

- Cyber Security

- Directors and Officers

- Employment Practices

- Fiduciary Liability

- Key Man Life

- Etc.

  • Completes financial review and approval of company benefit programs

- Health

- Dental

- Vision

- Group Term Life

- Short-term Disability

- Section 125 (Cafeteria) Plan

- 401(k) Plan

- Etc.

  • Reviews and approves all contractual agreements of the company

Management of Finance and Accounting Personnel

  • Creates organization structure, defines roles and responsibilities
  • Oversees department communication
  • Establishes challenging, value-added performance objectives
  • Ensures achievement of objectives
  • Completes performance appraisals
  • Supports career and skill development

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Advanced degree (Masters of Accounting or MBA) preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum 15-years’ financial leadership experience, including Controller or CFO role required
  • Manufacturing finance experience, with standard costing experience required
  • Proven history of positive contributions
