Project Engineer-Retrofit Division in Phoenix

Primary Function:

An entry level management position located in Phoenix, Arizona, leading to career path opportunities in estimation and retrofit project sales. The Project Engineer - Retrofit is responsible for directly handling the acquisition of necessary project information, scope of work, estimation, pricing, negotiation and sales of retrofit projects. This will require leadership, communication skills, listening skills, time management skills, and the ability to work independently. Qualified candidates will be highly motivated, detail-oriented individuals. Quality communication skills will be required to effectively coordinate project details with customers and other members of the Sun retrofit team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• When plans and specifications are not available, meet with customer to discuss project requirements and develop the required scope of work for the project
• When plans and specifications are provided by a customer, provide full estimation duties of the information provided
• Perform project site visits to determine site conditions that will affect project pricing
• Coordinate and communicate with vendors for pricing
• Coordinate and communicate with subcontractors for pricing
• Perform take off on plumbing, piping, ductwork, and equipment
• Acquire pricing for take-off items
• Analyze potential project risk items and make adjustments accordingly
• Perform vendor pricing review
• Perform subcontractor pricing review
• Perform final pricing review
• Create the final scope of work
• Review proposal with customer
• Perform negotiations with customer
• Close the sale with customer
• Perform project handoff duties to retrofit project managers when needed
• Perform project management on smaller projects as required
• Other duties as assigned by management

Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong ability to plan/schedule construction activities
• Maintain a professional working relationship with clients and subcontractors
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to travel to potential project sites
• Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft office, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Project

Education and/or Experience (in order of preference):

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR
• Bachelor's Degree in Construction Engineering with Mechanical Emphasis OR
• 4+ years of HVAC Retrofit Estimation or Sales

Physical Demands:

The person performing in this position must be able to travel across a project site in varying conditions throughout the year. The person will need to be able to climb ladders to access roof tops. The position will require travel to meetings with customers, engineering firms, job sites and company offices.
