SMBC is seeking an Analyst Auditor to work within the Internal Auditing Department’s Financial Crimes Compliance team (“the FCC Audit Team”) for the Americas function. It reports to a Director, and is responsible for the scoping and execution of Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering (“BSA/AML”) and sanctions audit coverage in accordance with established Internal Audit methodology and professional auditing standards.
In this position, the Analyst Auditor will perform professional internal auditing work that involves evaluating the AML and sanctions control environment for business units operating within the Americas Division and provide feedback to Management on the adequacy of BSA/AML and sanctions control designs, as well as the operating effectiveness of processes/activities. The candidate should have functional knowledge of local regulatory compliance and AML programs that have been established to comply with the AML and local banking regulatory requirements, policies and procedures, provisions and guidelines. The candidate must have working knowledge of regulatory requirements and the related risks and controls and demonstrate the ability to lead an FCC Audit Team on larger, more complex audit reviews, as well as work as a team member.
The incumbent is responsible for performing the essential functions (the primary job duties that are fundamental to the position) below, in addition to other duties as assigned.
Up to 10% domestic/international travel during the fiscal year within SMBC's Americas Division, as follows:
Branches/ Subsidiaries located in Brazil, Canada, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Representative Offices located in Houston, Chicago, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
Main components or key results of the job:
Examines and evaluate internal controls in key risk areas of banking activities/practices to ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable rules, laws, and regulations.
Possesses a broad and comprehensive understanding of different Internal Audit standards, policies and AML and sanctions regulations. Proposes or evaluates appropriate corrective measure designed to strengthen internal controls, operational policies and procedures, and other weaknesses identified during audits
Delivers timely high quality FCC audit assurance reports, Internal Audit Department and Regulatory issue validations and continuous monitoring reporting in accordance with Internal Audit Department standards, relevant government statutes and regulations.
Demonstrates strong judgment, political astuteness, and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
Possesses strong project management and interpersonal skills, makes sound decisions, exhibiting initiative and critical thinking.
Uses excellent communication skills in order to influence a wide range of internal audiences including respective product, function, or senior management partners.
Applies a broad and comprehensive knowledge of BSA/AML and sanctions across functional areas and develops effective stakeholder relationships.
Pro-actively advances integrated auditing concepts and use of Computer Aided Audit Tools (“CAAT”).
Propose or evaluate appropriate corrective measure designed to strengthen internal controls, operational policies and procedures, and other weaknesses identified during audits. Analyzes reporting findings and recommends and pragmatic solutions for risk and control problems.
Prepares clear and concise audit work papers and summarizing scope, methodology, and significant conclusions of audit procedures performed within prescribed time-frames.

Preferred Previous Work Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience in areas related to AML, sanctions, fraud risk management programs and regulations, banking regulations, local standards, and internal policies.
Subject matter expertise of AML and sanctions related risks and a solid business understanding of financial services industry, especially those associated with correspondent banking, corporate banking, treasury management and capital markets conducting AML, fraud and sanctions reviews.
Effective influence skills in communicating findings. This individual must be an articulate and effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
Strong interpersonal skills for interfacing with all levels of internal and external audit and management.
Preferred Education/Licenses/Professional Certifications/Registrations:
Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Accounting, Finance or other related field)
CAMS or CFE certification is required. CIA and/or CPA are a plus.
