Your responsibilities will include: Helping in the Park nursery, propagating and transplanting native plants for restoration, controlling alien plant invasions using mechanical and chemical means and hiking and camping in remote backcountry locations Monday through Friday. Other duties may include monitoring native species. This position requires that applicants be physically fit and able to work in challenging outdoor conditions. Compensation amounts:
+ $200 - weekly living allowance
+ $1,300 - one time RT travel allowance
+ Housing
+ AmeriCorps eligible ($1,566 education award)

+ Location Description
Haleakala National Park has a variety and diverse ecosystems, ranging from cinder desert, mesic shrubland to wet rainforest and coastal strand. A weeks work may be in any of these locations.

Basic Helicopter Training, Plant ID

An opportunity to learn the native ora of Hawaii, threats to this ecosystem, and to learn what conservation activities are taking place here.

Housing is not guaranteed but based on availability which varies seasonally. Park housing consists of apartments; each unit houses two people with private bed/bath and shared kitchen/living space. A laundry facility is located next door for residents in park housing. Park housing is in the service area next door to the Resources Management Office.
